best way is different for everyone ... ask accountant ... but also depends if u want to own it eventually or not.

yup u can modify it but they will expect it to be back to standard at end of lease if u give keys back ... if u sell to a 3rd party lease company wont ever know its been modified but if u give it back and theres holes in floor where tank frame used to be then they will bill you

Pay for it outright to keep outgoings to a minimum

Save a deposit and do the rest on a bank loan. That way you will own the van when loan paid off, you can do what you like fitting your system, you will have a min 3 year warranty on new vehicle and interest you pay can be set against your tax bill.

You then have the choice of claiming 45p/mile or set it against your tax bill as a capital expense along with all running costs.

i leased mine ,but it's second hand .the cost of the van was £4800 and i paid £1500 deposit (that's what i got for my previous van) and pay £700 extra over two years in interest

I was wondering the same thing, and agree with above.  Accountant will say whats best for business, whens best to sell yours (depreciation on tax records).  I wondered about going down leasing route, but not so good if you do alot of miles (i do 20k a year). 

I personally will prob look at decent business loan and try to save up a nice deposit and buy a low mileage 3 year old van next.  Fancy me a 4 motion   But that depends on accountant.  I have a 2005 VW caddy with 62k on it, this will do me for at least another couple of years i imagine.

i have a leased van and had equipment fitted.  so long as you can remove the equipment at the end of the lease, there shouldnt be a problem.

Yup. There are a lot of dorks and idots on this forum but there are also a lot of decent w/c's who post interesting and helpfull stuff.

It's quiet involved as to the best way to lease or finance a new van and there's 3 main methods. It's best to go to a main dealer and ask so as you can understand which is which and which is best for you, and then hunt around for the best deal.

Usually, you can get the van paneled out and dry lined, added to the cost of course, but it increases the resale value.

The other thing about leasing is they will allow a set amount of miles - 12 000, 20 000, etc. The more annual milage, the more you pay. If you go over the annual milage it's about 90p a mile extra.

It's all quite involved and not as straight forwards as it may appear which is why it's best to take some time and go and ask.
