dumping therapy
« on: December 16, 2011, 07:37:46 pm »
Working away in the snow and cold today, first customer lovely old lady suffering from cancer. Had a good chat, she gave me a nice bottle of wine, great. Second one, £20 tip! Fab. Third one, cup of tea, looking like a good day. Number four, opened the door with a right face on her. It has been 3 months since her windows were done as she sometimes doesn't answer the door even though you can see her inside. Can't get round the back without going thru the garage. "Yes"? she growls. "I'm not having my windows done today" she proclaims. "you will have to get another window cleaner" I tell her. "What"? says she. "I am taking you off the round" Door slams shut.
Feels great and can recommend it to anyone being messed around. She was already on thin ice and this was D day. Who needs customers like that?

The more crap you dump the better your round will be.

Dont waste time on them as stops u finding proper customers.

Sure its the customers choice to have em cleaned or not - some on here would have u beleive that u should give em a chance - however also your choice to have a great round or a round full of dross .... I know what I would rather have.

The BFG when he posted would have a cull at the end of every year which is a good idea or dump them as you go

D.A.Y.G. if you like ;)

i agree but the trouble is if you dont have a decent ish compact round like me it makes it a bit hard to dump ie if you dump one it may not be viable to do the others if there is only a few . igot a few one of which is a right winger went to do three next door only to be told they wanted me to trad em because it its gonna freeze . fair enough i usualy grit if needs be the thing is it was the old chap next door who planted the the seed the thing is most of the houses have a path way with no windows to drip it  gets on my ti~~TS im going on a canvas binge in the new year to get new custys hopefully get rid of none paying messers or may be not get worse ones ;D

Although I think some go too far with it (self included occasionally), IMO it is very important to keep customers who mess around to a minimum.
I once had nearly 500 customers on my books.  I needed that many in order to get in sufficient cleans each month to make a reasonable living.  This was back in the time of £5/£6 houses off a ladder.  So many people used to turn me away or want me to knock on the off chance that they were in.  I took it all.  I didn't really know any better because there was no internet then and I didn't have a mentor.  I make far more now with half that number of custies.  Nearly all of them are reliable and do want a regular service.  A few of them want less frequent cleans but are prepared to pay a higher price for the service.  Naturally I have the odd one who may not want to play ball but I do generally discuss it with them before deciding whether to continue the arrangement.  There are plenty of ways of doing this without being confrontational.  Sometimes it's simply a matter of them wanting a particular type of service that it's not practical for me to provide.  I have even been known to recommend another window cleaner in such circumstances.

i find alot of custys very fickal for example ive been doing a house for a good while other day guy comes out asks me if im happy with wfp yes i says  im not he replies the front window always as long drip marks ive looked closley the seals are shot, but they have never said owt they used to polish them of when dry any in sted of telling me they were just gonna cancel just for one window untill i said i would trad the trouble some window i all ways make a point of telling my custys if they have a problem ill fix it. why do a lot of custy think your not aprochable and just give you the bullit at the drop of a hat

i think there is a differenc between a custy who doesnt like wfp becasue of 1 window that can be done trad,  and a custy who wants it done when they want it done,  i got a few crap payers on my round  the type that have never got money, so have dumped them,   it is better to dump and replace with better work than work for free

i have had jobs 3 years and they are crap  already dumped 15 in the street,  just dumped a other 3  the rest pay on the day

After 3 months and she didn't acknowledge you knocking her door, I wouldn't even have knocked her door this time. Not worth wasting 2 minutes if she even bothers to answer. Unless she has some sort of condition which makes her like this, then she is just down right rude.
