I started out window cleaning last October. I've had a good summer picking up custom by being spotted and people calling. That has slowed right down the last couple of months though. Is this normal because of the time of year?

There's no rhyme or reason to picking up customers mate; sometimes it seems that everyone wants a window cleaner and at other times it's like you've got leprocy!!!

It can happen where you pick lots of new work up within a short space of time, and more slowly at other times. As long as you keep doing a good job, you are reliable, and your customers like you, the work will come to you by means of word of mouth recommendation or by being seen.

Probably, but be wary of people who want to go on your books just before Xmas, they usually only want one off and clean windows for Xmas, then tell you not to come again.
To get round this, say yes, I'll put you on the books to start in January and see their reaction

totally agree with Helen, or clearly state 2 prices with a min amount of cleans. if you have space for work charge more maybe 3x for the first clean if one-off, if I had the time in the next couple of weeks to get more people cleaned I would be charging more anys due to demand

It really depends on if you have availability before Xmas. We have very little ( we only do a minimum of window cleaning now anyway)
Had an enquiry Monday and she said she was looking for regular, but really needed a clean before Xmas. We could have fitted it in, but I had warning bells ringing. I knew the style of house, so I said the only day we could do it is on the 23rd Dec and monthly thereafter, but we do require payment up front for 2 cleans (about £45.00).
Her answer:
Oh but we are putting Xmas lights up this weekend and they cover the upstairs windows ( she phoned Monday!) and I don't want to pay up front for the next clean........... bye bye
