Protectacote is excellent stuff. Ive used it on my last two vans, in my opinion its more superior and cheaper than fibreglassing the van floor. Dont think B&Q sell it.

I would have to disagree with that, protectacote is a rubberised paint, and fibreglass is a whole new floor.  Fibreglass will cover over gaps where protectacote won't.  Imagine if you have a wooden floor in your van you are never going to stop the water going underneath with protectacote, you can with fibreglass flooring.  With fibreglass flooring you do it once and that's it, with protectacote you have to keep going over it, or so I have heard in the past.

It is slightly cheaper to buy, and easier to apply but nowhere near as good.

My van is just over five years old and was brand new when I got it. I used no extra paint except a bit of primer on the bit at the back where I am chucking stuff in and out and I just used primer around the tank fixing points.

It's still fine - no rot, no rust - and I fill the footwells at least once every six months when I overfill or a connector pops off!  ;D
It's a game of three halves!

Totally agree, i have one van that has been fibreglassed and it is far superior than protectacote. If you are going to keep the van for a while, spend the extra.

Really don't know why people waste their money on protectokote mine is fine after 18 months with no coating!

At the end of the day the floor is the same as the outside of the van and that don't rust in a hurry ;D

The problems arise when the water is trapped and not allowed to dry out.  Parking on a hill would help, and keeping the van dry would also help.  The thing is when you have things fitted like tanks or wooden floors the water gets trapped underneath and will cause damage over time.  If anyone is using a paint for protection I would advise the removal of the wooden floor if any.

The outside of the van will rust over time as will the chasis.  Both are allowed to dry out after they get wet, but they will eventually rust.

Pick Up truck with a plastic load liner and drainage holes works rather well.
