sounds a good customer to me. cancelling on the one occasion doesnt sound bad . not like the rabble of poop half my customers are, cancelling any which way they can . i know its a sign of the times  , i ve dropped so many custys cause they keep trying to treat me like they can pick and choose when they want them done i had this one custy who after sept clean has said every month not today . so i text her a minute ago to leave gate unlocked and she said no again and she wont want them doing till the spring ,  she has gone off my list for good. some people must think we pay a small fortune to get set up for them to have their houses cleaned 4 times a year. its a joke .  funny thing is there is that many windys about at the moment she wont have any problem getting her wish.

mate, you need to set your stall out better! really! your letting the custy dictate and run a muck! get it sorted mate!!! some may think im harsh but i take no prisinors and thats why most of my custys dont mess me about ever, becuase im straight on the blower to them like tonight, or i tell them straight to theere face how it is!

im not being harsh but get it sorted out pal! asap!

george

But you came on here first to ask what others would do!  ;D
Did you mention the dog mess when you rang her?

Fair do's.
It's all sorted now. You do the clean and she keeps her window cleaner. Result.

she said, "youve cancelled more times than i have!" which is true. ive moved her clean around aprobably 4 or 5 times due to various reasons like sickness van break downs etc which i explained were out of my control! Tongue

I would have thought about that before calling her, and let her cancellation go just this once.

If you've cancelled her a number of times but then jump on her as soon as she cancels once its a bit unfair...

I reckon she will ask to either change to a longer frequency or cancel altogher... I hope it goes well though!

Flexibilty and fairness from both sides makes a happy buiness/custie relationship.
Wouldn't even have flinched at this one, just texted "OK have a good Xmas" back to her and appreciated the fact I didn't have a wasted journey.
"You can't cancel a clean unless you have a good reason" did you really say that or was that what you wanted to say? It's her business why she didn't want the clean not yours.
You are lucky cos if I had been that custie, I would be finding a new window cleaner in the new year, never mind cancel, I'd have sacked you. :)

I`m not into `flame wars`GB,but have to agree with Helen on this one.
Xmas is coming up,she might be looking at her windows thinking
They don`t look too bad, that £20 will go towards Xmas `pressies`.
Now in the new year,if she starts making a a habit of it,then oaky,
Possibly move on and dump her.It takes 2 to tango.

Totally with you on this one.

I do laugh sometimes when I see window cleaners saying that they tell the customer how it is.

No you don't pillock. If they don't agree with the way you work they dump you, simple.

If I go to Morrisons after a bit of a break the manager doesn't rush out and tell me that I can't shop there because I'd not been in last month!!!!

Constant messers can be dumped; some poor woman who may not be able to afford it two weeks before Christmas, but with an otherwise good record doesn't deserve the hassle of being questioned over her motif for missing a month.

Some folk on here think they're more important than they are lol!!!!
Come and talk dirty to us!!!

Well I would say that she can pay by cheque if she wanted but you have to remember that she took the trouble to let you know.  It's not as if you turned up, started setting up the kit, then she came out and said "not today".  Taking the trouble to send that text is important IMO because she hasn't cost you any time or hassle and has also shown reasonable consideration.

- and to add it's when you turn up on the day and they cancel without an exceptional reason that it's instant drop!
It's a game of three halves!

I think the customers reply is very telling. Many will 'drop' on the first sign of a cancellation but you have to see it works both ways, you have to offer as flexiable service as you give to them.

I have never dropped anyone just because they have asked for me not to clean this time. If I did, I would be dumping nearly everyone! It happened very rarely when I had my round in England, but here in Ireland it happens to me on a scale that you would not believe. The main reasons are that the windows are still clean, or that they are skint. You just have to go with the flow, and don't let it stress you out! We're only their window cleaner. Do we really think that they couldn't live without us!

One of my custys cancelled on on the doorstep at 8am today despite my having texted her last night.

She told me she hadn't even seen the text as she was worried about her breast cancer operation scheduled for 2pm today.

Should I have dumped her?  After all, once a messer, always a messer.

My sentiments entirely - some cleaners take the notion that if you give the customer a bit of slack they'll start taking the p*ss
If its a new one, fair enough - set your stall out from the off
Regulars, who are decent enough, good payers , deserve a little bit of respect - after all, they are employing you!!
It's only ever one or two per round for me and never all the time
I just take it on the chin and move on  :)

That's the trouble with texting, they can be missed.  :)
I guess your post is very tongue in cheek, after all she didn't have to tell you the reason did she? :)

Still not getting income from her today, I expect your business will be going down the pan soon ;)

thnks to everyone for there view i appreciate it!

i think i might have painted this customer in a wrong light actually...

for a start they are defo not skint, they have a never paid me has ive requested so they are bad payers on the whole, there garden is always full of dog doo's  :)

i dont mind once in a blue moon if they wont me to skip them, but i think alot of you have missed the point, the custy seems to think if she hasnt got cash then i can skip the clean! sorry i dont roll like that  8) a cheque will do nicely or a bank transfer

anyway i suppose i will have to agree to sisagree with some of you on here, but dont take that the wrong way please because i really do like to hear all of your opinions weather i agree with them or not its nice to hear how others would deal with matter!

thanks again everyone!

nice one george.  thanks for that, and let us know what happens next month!

Its not always easy to make right decision, and we are all different, and the customers are all different.  gotta handle it as you see fit, for your business and the situation that you know.

Cheers!
