RO advice needed
« on: December 11, 2011, 01:48:57 pm »
Hi guys, I'm just setting up my 6 stage RO system from RO MAN.  I've flushed everything, the output TDS has dropped from 30+ down to 003 at the moment and I assume it will continue to fall as I flush a little more through.

There's a small leak that I'm working on at the moment but I seem to remember reading about pressure affecting the output TDS levels and thought I'd ask.  My gauge is showing 100lbs at the moment and I wanted to check if thats not to high.

Thanks

I think there is an optimum pressure. You just gotta play with it and see tds results changing for better or worse. I think 60 to 80 PSI is normally optimum, depends on your RO really. H4, H5?

I would be happy with polishing 3tds anyway!!

Thanks, I guess that I'll need a pressure reduction valve to be able to alter the flow then.

think ive got the same sort of problem :-\ im running 2 20" pre fillters then a 40.40 then my resin.
im filling a 500lt tank & im now on my 4th fill. When i started 3weeks ago it was at 0.00, now im on my 4th fill its running out at 0.02, is this ok? Only i thought it would stay at 0.00 for a bit longer than this  :-\

Not sure of a definitive answer on the correct pressure. It will probably depend on the RO.
But i've heard figures of 50-75 psi being spoken of.
So if you are running at 100 psi it might be a bit high.
This might even be putting a strain on your fittings if you have a water leak. But saying that your output TDS sounds good.
If your water pressure does affect your RO by being too high you might be able to fit a pressure reducing valve.

Mate its all about balance. Your flow controller they have a rating 400 0r 300 and even 6oo if its to small your TDS will rise and your fittings will leak. 100 Dpi is to high for the pipes and fittings.Fit a large flow controller or open your flush tap a wee bit till your psi is say 80 /90 and your tds will drop more ,but remember it will take a few minutes to change.

100psi is good, I wouldn't reduce it.  If you do your reading will likely go up, your waste to product ratio will go up, and your pure water production will reduce. Fix the leak and leave it how it is.

Many thanks guys, I've fixed my leak but now I'm a little stuck with the ball valve shut off to the tank, it's not the best ball valve setup I've seen.

To be honest I think it would function better if it was fitted to the top of the tank hanging down, but I've fitted it into the side obviously  ;D

It's just got rather dark here and my nose is running faster than my RO system so I'll sort it in the morning.

Still open to suggestions on the input PSI, I don't think the saddle valve will restrict the pressure but I'll give it a try before buying a pressure valve if it's too high.

Don't worry about jumping in here Pure Clean, the more info we can pack into one thread the better mate.  ;)
