Sign of the times...
« on: December 09, 2011, 06:51:35 pm »
Everyone in our village lost telephone and broadband services for the whole of last week. A real pain this close to Christmas.

I found out today that someone had dug up and removed the copper cable (for scrap!) Shame they didn't fry on an elictrical substation instead.

they nicked the railway signal cable from near us last week, they put the scrap value at £130 but it cost £30,000 in repairs and lost revenue

I hired a guy recently for a high access job, he worked for one of the top 4 rail companies.
We were talking about theft from railways, he said biggest culprits were the employees, they can just drive onto sites un-noticed and load a van full of cables, often worth thousands.

We've had phone cables and even drain covers nicked round here. Everyone knows who they are, maybe thats why they drive round in Audi's & bm's.

There's a factory on the industrial estate close to us, it closed about a year ago, I've just walked past it with the dog tonight and can hear the scum inside ripping out the copper etc.  The police even drove past when I was there and didn't even get out the car even though I told them there was people inside stealing!

Cops must have been there in minutes as one guy still has his trainers.
