Done 3 tanks - used a hole cutter - then bathroom sealant - no leaks the immersion cuts its own thread.

It's a game of three halves!

Fitted mine last January, with mechanical flange- which is the best & most secure method. No sealants, just PTFE paste on the flange thread & PTFE tape on the immersion thread- ZERO leaks & works a treat. Not only do you get a tank of hot water that stays warm all day but NOTHING in the van freezes either with a 400ltr radiator in the back!!!! ;)

No need for sealants if you use the mechanical flange & do it correctly! ;)

You'll get the flange & element (27" with resettable thermostat) from Toolstation- approx £13 each. ;)

You'll need heat resistant cable for the immersion (fit plug on other end) which you'll get from City electrical factors (or similar)

Also a 64mm hole saw for the flange hole. ;)
