hi

got a 250kg tank what weight rachet straps do i need. i have got a vauxhall combo and im not sure what the loading eyes are rated for 

theirs no point getting 1 tonne straps if the loading eyes are only rated for 800kg is there

doesnt matter if you get 1 ton straps and the eyes are for 800, as the load is only 250

dont worry some one will do a maths example, saying it equals 12 ton at 3 miles an hour  lol

The water in the tank would weigh approx 250kg but also don't forget the tank has a weight of 21kg when calculating the payload.

So total would be 271kg.

I bought 4t straps for my 250L and I don't believe the hooks provided would hold it in a crash, but for the price I got them for I was happy to pay it.

i have 4, 5 ton straps on my tank one on each corner.
i got mine off ebay, make sure you dont get the 12ft long ones as you will have the left over all balled up like i have.

wouldnt bother with straps just put abit of batterning around the base so it wont move when empty if def wont be moving when full !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Save your money by not using the wood and use a couple of blobs of bluetac.
I often steal it from under any posters i move when tradding.

lol. look at you, splashing out. let's not go overboard, one blob would be more than enough.

on a serious note, I would be very interested in how we can find out the restraining weight of the eyelets in van. my straps are more than up to the job. but I doubt the lashing points are.

i can see the point in using 4 tonne straps if the loading eyes are only rated for 1 tonne the heavy load will rip the loading eyes out the van

i had straps with a minimum breaking load of 5ton when i
was using a 400lt tank in a ford connect had it strapped in three places.

i hit a jag up the arse and i was doing between 25-30 mph
tank moved on impact..about six inches sideways

The standard weld test equals out at 1 ton per inch of weld, if your eyelets are spot welded in count the spots up and the diameter and theres your answer...

Inertia's your big problem, I cant remember the way its worked out, but if your mother in law weighs 25 stone and she sits behind you in the car then in an impact she would drop her worthers originlas, hope this helps...
