How would you deal with this?
« on: November 30, 2011, 11:37:29 am »
Hi All,

Take a look below at the emails between a customer and me... He also tried to blame broken guittering on me before, even though we've only ever cleaned his windows and not gutters! I'm going to see him tomorrow afternoon about the broken lead.

How would you deal with it?

---
>> Attn Andy

Your colleague came to 43 Mxxx Road to clean the windows 23rd November unfortunately he has broken in 2 places, the lead on one of the upstairs windows in front of the house. Are you insured for such an accident?

Regards

David Txxx

>> Hello Mr Txxx

I'm sorry to hear about your problem with the upstairs window.

The brushes that we use for window cleaning use very soft bristles so I would be surprised if the lead has been broken whilst window cleaning, however I can come and have a look on Thursday afternoon if convenient for you?

When was the broken lead noticed?

Many Thanks,
Andy

Thursday should be OK Thanks

>> Hi,

Also, I meant to ask which window it was? I remember that the top right hand side window (above lower dormer window) has had some loose lead on it for quite some time?

I'll come round on Thursday to take a look.

Many Thanks,
Andy

You have done the most important thing and acknowledged his complaint. It sounds as if some of the lead was already loose - have you made him aware of this in the past?
It may be that when he see,s the brushs are so soft it would not knock lead off. Of course he may just be trying it on you will soon know.

a difficult one. we have a very soft brush, but still have folded up some lead on a window or 2 where it was already damaged. that being said we used to do it just as much when it was done traditionally. difference being we used to straighten it back out before! not so easy to do that on upstairs, or even to notice there's a problem!

don't know, can it be glued back down? either way work having note on records so can be careful with problem windows....... good luck with him!

You can't do anymore now until you see it first hand.
Take photo's of it, just in case it should happen to get "worse" after you have looked. ;)

Unless the brush was left on the window and pulled down the leads with a great force I cannot see how it could be broken with wfp.

If it is just stick on stuff and not real inset "lead" the adhesive will have weakened over time and any sort of cleaning would weaken it more.  Mind you trying to explain this one to an awkward so & so will be frustrating.

Let us know how you get on :)

Just have a look and show him the brush you can buy a roll of the thin lead for about £7 from argos which you can stick on and cut it with a sharp scraper blade as the lead has a sticky back which you peel the paper off it easy 10 min job that will keep him happy !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have done this to stick on leads before with scrim and with brush.  It's appalling to have such stuff on windows when it's not fit for purpose.  If it can't take a bit of brushing then it shouldn't be on there in the first place.
I would stick it back on but cancel the job - and tell him why.  No need for any bad stuff.  Just to say that as the lead clearly isn't fit for purpose, there is too high a risk of it happening again.
