cold calling free zones
« on: November 24, 2011, 05:15:11 pm »
hi just some quick advice really as i am pretty new to canvassing...

i seem to be seeing alot of cold calling free zones where i live and just wondered EXACTLY what these mean? is it illegal to canvass down them or do the locals just not really like it? or is it aimed at specific door knockers such as sales people and not so much people knocking on doors and asking if they have a window cleaner looking for a yes or no answer?

if some of you experienced guys could let me know how you approach them and any other canvassing tips i'd really appreciate it! many thanks

Just clean their windows. When they ask why you were doing them, just say it said no cold calling on the door so you had to assume they needed doing seen as they were dirty. Charge them top whack too.

Knock and hand deliver a leaflet its no cold calling its a delivery.
I think its the utility and donations they do not want.I know everything even when it says no and never had a problem if I was knocking and they ask just  be apologetics and move on.

id be tempted to knock and hand deliver the leaflet, in a non sales kinda way.  I think it does include you really tho, so if you get some negative responses, apologise and just post them thru the door instead.  Long and short of it is you are really selling, even if it is a service.  And last thing you want to do is upset a whole neighbourhood!

Then again, no other window cleaner might have canvassed due to this so it could be a whole virgin market, ready to be reaped!!  :D :o 8)

If they give you a mouth full you have lost nothing, as they did not give you business in the firs place. But they might just chat to you. Just be polite. Take A chance and be a sales winner.

You are not breaking any law although someone could well call the police and they might come and have a chat with you. I say go for it and do not let anything deter you from carrying out your lawful business.

If you had a clear notice on your door stating "no cold calling", how would you react if someone knocked your door and tried to sell you a service or something?  :)

I knock any door regardless of whatever sign they have. I'm not selling anything just making people aware of the service I provide.
I asked a customer who happens to be a Kleeneeze manager this only yesterday. He said he knocks every door too!!

Its every individuals choice of whether they" knock" or not!

Around here Kleeneeze post the magazine and have a date for it to be left outside for collection......
Cold calling free zones are set up to protect the old and vulnerable and whilst we know we are not "rogues" they don't.

My Mother (80) was nearly caught out by unscrupulous "cold callers", distraction callers I think they call it, but she cottoned on pretty quick and told them where to go in no uncertain terms, the walking stick brandishing helped alot I believe...... ;D

On the serious side it was not the actual act of what these 2 had or were about to do it was the was the way it affected my mum afterwards.....afraid to go to bed, afraid to open the door, afraid to have doors and windows open during the day and so on.....
In her words, they were really smart looking and polite, then she noticed a further person trying to go down the side of her bungalow..... They were supposedly selling gardening services.

So IMO you should leave these areas alone, there is a valid reason for those signs being put up :)
