Windy Websites ???
« on: November 23, 2011, 03:20:56 pm »
Just wondered how many had websites for your business, do you get a lot of work come through from them, i had one via Vistaprint, gave it a try for a year (just cancelled), cost me around the £200 mark, got 2 jobs and a couple of enquireys, and these only came via leflet dropping, had there been no website addy they would have called instead, get far better results from dropping cards through.

Whats your thoughts   ???

Cheers Brian.

Web site are not always a magic bullet. They are almost a must have for most businesses and you can spend a lot of cash. an important thing to remember is how you drive traffic to the web site once created. you can do this in a wide variety of ways including good old leaflets.

Once people know you have a site you will get people viewing.

Websites only work when someone is actively searching for your service,.. other advertising like leaflets, vehicle signs etc work on people who hadn't even realised they needed a cleaner.

A website IMO is a great addition to your advertising package, and should definitely generate more than 2 calls in a year,.. but they work best in combination with other advertising.

If your website isn't working, you need to check your SEO, get some backlinks, integrate social networking & make it easy to read/navigate & use.

500 hits p/m is good  :o, out of 13 months i only had 611 hits in total  ???, and that came with 4 search engine submissions via Vistaprint, was costing just under £16.00 p/m.

That's bad for the money you were paying.

I dont pay anything for mine and this months stats are showing 454 hits with 830 views so far.

I would contact vistaprint and asked them why your site did not generate more hits/views  ???

As has been mentioned, it's really all about driving interested people to your site in the first place, the technical side of things are called META tags, if you look at someone's web site in code view you'll see that they add relevant information inside those tags i.e. "Window Cleaner"

So when someone searches on the web via google, the google spiders that crawl the web should hopefully have indexed your site as relevant to them and show it.

Paying someone to do this properly is the best way to go, but that's not to say you can't do it yourself or have other key words added to your META tags at a later date.  If you add services to your work then make sure the people that are looking after your page can update them for you.

You can also setup free pages for your business on Face Book, then if you wait a few weeks they will likely send you a free £25 voucher to use on the Face Book site to promote your page and external web site.  It's handy for free I suppose they have sent me two so far  ;D

Plus Face Book should display your adverts to people in your area as they monitor things quite well, I'm also fairly sure they use google cookies on your PC to display your site to people that may have searched google for a window cleaner at some point.  It's a bit of a black art sometimes, but you'll notice it happening more and more these days.
