Shrunk !!!!!!!! :P :P :P :P

Can U believe it my own carpet has shrunk, but not through cleaning, I live in new bungalow only 12 years old and the carpet is only 4 years old, It's a cheepish 80/20 in my hall,

but has been slowly shrinking on one edge, the edge by the radiator, mmmmmmmm

Does any body else find this happens, after summer months the heating goes on and starts moving carpets, I had three pubs in one month have all there carpet shrink, I thought it was me untill found out they had just had central heating fitted and this is what caused it.

Am I right with my conclusion

This is possible due to the moisture in the fibres evaporating. That is why after drying water damaged carpets we leave them a couple of weeks to re-aclimatise before re-fitting.
This is a much bigger problem with wood floors.

very probally due to central heating. Many pubs tend to whack on their central heating the minute we leave, this leads to uneven drying, often resulting in shrinkage.I have started leaving a turbo dryer at pubs and picking it up later from them, and advising the customer to keep central heating down.

Hi Guys,

Heat can very readily affect the dimensional stability of many flooring materials.

There is a need for a dimensionally stable base , I was involved with the development of the glass fibre base used in Flotex.

Other causes of shrinkage can be plasticiser migration as seen in PVC floorings, hessian shrinkage caused by water and sometimes a combination.

I believe BW shrinkage may be heat as well as water related.

Cheers,

Doug
