help with motor ?

Afternoon been out doing a job this morning, i use a extracta cx i was cleaning away when the machine stopped / started then stopped out the corner my eye i seen a few sparks at the vent on the side of the machine and everything went off and there was a bit of a burning smell . It tripped the house socket fuse so i switched it back on and fired up the machine and it tipped out again with spark again at the vent so again flicked the trip swicth fired up the machine and it worked fine and no burning smell.
Ive had no problem with this machine for two years so not could this be the start off the brushs going ? if so how hard are they the fit can it be done by myself

could be or a break in the mains lead, possible water leak causing short to earth, get it pat tested.

Or simply a loose wire in plug.

good luck

(excess sparking sounds like vac bushes on the way out. renew asap before vac blows up.)

The vac motor armature has blown - new motor req.

Yep sounds like the vac motor gone one of mine went a few weeks ago, same symptoms took it out brushes were ok. New one from extracta was approx £250 i think.

Mate I think I'd have stopped using the machine after the first lot of sparks flying out the side and the trip going!!

Aren't the extracta machines the ones that go through motors like nobody's business? :-\

Cheers lads going to ring extracta this morning and see what they say if has to go to them i may ask to get it serviced to also the waste seal needs replacing but need the machine by the end of thr week

Take this advice. Saved me a fortune over the years. Change water pump/vac motor brushes at regular intervals BEFORE they wear away and the motor stops. I started doing this years ago and my motors last years rather than 1yr to 18months. Another thing I do is always use RCD trip switches on my plugs. Not for the safety aspect but they will trip out when your motor windings start breaking down nad thats the sign to change motor. By the way the intervals I use to renew brushes are 400hrs for vac brushes and 800hrs for my Shurflo pumps.
