getting sick of being owed money now, on average am owed £250 a week,  after been collecting twice,  have online payments, take cheques etc,  just cant seem to get the money back in,  its getting to the point where i am better off unemployed when you take in to running costs, compared to what i get in

any ideas how i can get better cash flow and get custy to pay on time

How about an extra note with everyones bills next month explaining how it might not seem urgent for them to pay their bill as it may be a relatively small amount, but if all your customers did it you couldnt survive. And if they dont pay on time persistant late payers (without prior agreement) will be dropped from the round.

Personally I think if people know you will collect they wont bother to make a payment.

Just keep your head down working, and it smooths out over time.  You'll always be owed money, but the double and triple payments you receive one month makes up for the payments you don't receive in the current month.

Concentrate on just getting the work done, and the cash flow will tend to work itself out.

It can be disheartening, I know from experience, when you're skint and have been working hard, and it kinda saps your motivation to do more, but really, it's head down time and just keep plugging away getting those accounts cleaned and your cash flow will sort itself out.

I have excellent cashflow all year round.the compact cheaper small domestic pay mostly on the day or end of the week.I usually get the same amount in every month that I've earned.sometimes more!a few  bacs and sae dragged their heels sometimes(usually commercial!). A phone call or text sorts it out.

Don't get me wrong I'm always owed money but I get it in the end.

good post. i agree. there are some on here who have no problems at all. all their customers pay on time. maybe because they live on a different planet to us. the answer to problems like this is normally get more work and work harder where possible. people are people. i never let a single payment go. i chase everything.

What i do is chase up payments.

Cheques and online get 7 days to pay, when it gets to 10days i will send out a text reminder saying their account is showing overdue.

Got about £700 outstanding on george as it stands right now... some overdue and some within there time

am out chasing debts this weekend have worked it out am owed about £1000 just for november,  think it is getting to me more as got rip of numpty last week,  so been paying wages and then not getting the money back in,

gotta agree with tosh and daz, there's always money owed, but so long as you get it all, its a steady cycle. difficult to know where you stand financially as if you go on holiday or have couple of weeks off it hits you a couple of weeks down the road, but so long as you actually get the money some time then your no worse off, part and parcel of job really.

but when you do get an idiot who screws you over after months of chasing its bound to get you down......until you get payback

On an earlier thread about debts, I said that I have a rolling debt of about £400 a month - the way I look at it now is I consider this to be my 'week in hand' money I'd have to work if I had a proper job no one owes me for more than one clean now which I can deal with - a couple of customers owed me for two cleans in oct so the week before I texted them gentle reminders and hey presto the money's there waiting on next clean

Collects the money for you.

Dont know how it would work with w/c though?

I know I've said it before that it evens itself out and that you get the money in the end, but if you are always owed £5000 then you are £5000 worse off - sickening reality of allowing anyone credit.
