6.6 ninja
« on: November 16, 2011, 05:35:20 pm »
Has anyone ever changed their ninja to a parallel setup? I was thinking a good upgrade would be a 6.6 ninja. The tank could definitely take the power as it already puts up with comparable suction/lift. I might have a go at this at some point after all the plastic body will last for ever.

Would it be ok to put a 6.6 in with a 5.7
to start with until the 2nd vac goes then
put a second 6.6 in?
Would there be enough room in the Ninja
or are the 6.6 not much larger and not a
problem?

I cant see a problem with running a 6.6 with a 5.7. The lift will level off to the level of the weakest motor however the cfm should increase. The motors are only marginally larger in comparison with the 5.7 so i don't think space would be a problem however I would measure first. As I intend to run them in parallel over a manifold I think this could make the space issue a bit easier.

Can't get my head around how you'd do that Robin

If you wanted to parallel the motors into a manifold you'd need to completely re-design the whole mounting arrangement.

Maybe your engineering is better than mine though :)  I can service & fix them but drastic changes like that I think are beyond me!

What I'm thinking is that a parallel arrangement really need one stack pipe per motor otherwise you're strangling them and losing a big % of the airflow advantage.  Not beyone the realms of possibility to install a second stack pipe but like I said, major engineering job.  Begs the question why not invest a little bit of money in a properly built machine that also has auto fill/dump and a much better pump ;)

il have to google what a ninja looks like inside but it shouldn't be a major problem ...
something like take off motors ....  remove manifold .... get white flex plumbimg hose from b&q ...attach hose to each ...remount vacs ...attach each hose to plumbing pile combiner or y splitter ...attach to stack ...
If its a two inch stack it should be fine ...if its 1.5 it will still work ok ,i'v seen it done , but adding another would be no major hassle ... buy it from ashnys or online if u can find one ... drill hole with hole saw stick in and tighten ...

i know you run into fitting hassle along the way but nothing that couldn't be solved .

Or you could just pick up the phone and order a machine that has already been built around the vacs and would work a lot better :)

Let's face it, a portable is not an expensive thing to buy

I had in mind re designing the whole machine with two stacks and two exhausts. I do have quite a bit of experience in engineering so I don't feel it would be a problem.

As for the money your right its not a huge amount for a new machine, however a couple of grand is still quite a lot of beer tokens and for some sad reason I actually enjoy butchering my machinery.  :D

it's a 1.5" stack and the performance will be s&*te.
I tried this on my Powrflite as an experiment, 2 x 117123's
it was awful, it shifted more air but the suction was p*&s poor.
You definately will need an extra stack, or run a 1.5" inch pipe out through the
case and attach to the lid by a hose barb opposite the vacuum inlet.
You've got me thinking perhaps i should try 2 x 6.6's on my old Ninja  ;D
