Hi guys just wanted to know what you all use in the way of tank size i am using a 650 lt at the moment and was thinking of down sizing to a 350 lt because of insurance purposes. i do need the 650 and don't think i can cope with anything smaller but i am torn with the idea of just trying to save on insurance or do i leave it the way it is and pay more to the scum bags any input would be appreciated

I work alone and I use a 350 with a 25litre barrel and 18litre backpack and i have not run out yet!!!

If was going to employ i would get a 650.

at the moment mate i am a one man band but in april next year my lad will be leaving school and will be coming with me full time so just wanted to know what everybody else would do.

350 litre at the moment - wouldn't want anymore in my Vauxhall Combo.
some days I've been close to running out, but as I'm DI only it's easy to top up

Next van will be bigger, and I'll probably go to 500L or more

650 upright in my vw caddy. got 750kg payload but can only go to 400 litres legally. but got spare capacity in tank if want to push it. use 300 litres per day average with my wife.

i had 400 lts in my combo for 1 man and it was barely enough for most days.

now have a 2 man set-up with 1000 ltrs

if you need the 650 why change to save a few bob on insurance, the amount you save will be outweighed by having to come back and fill - less time working - fuel to base and back to refill water - and more loss of earnngs due to be at home and not wanting to go back out / wife wants jobs doing etc

I have yet to experience insurance companies messing me about. mine had no interest as it wasn't bolted down. wonder if it would change if had accident!

350L tank for me.i find it does me fine most days unless the flow controller decides not to work then im out of water by 3pm!i do have 2 25L barrels which will take me up to 400L if needed.

i cant see a time when ill need more than 400L for a days work.no plans to employ and most of my work is domestic.

I have a 1000 litre tank and it lasts me 2-3 days normally. I just got insured through NFU and can recommend them for a professional service.

If your lad will be joining you in August / September then i'd consider just keeping your insurance as it is.

Not sure when your insurance is due, but if its now and you drop down to a 350/400 then you might have to pay a bigger premium to go back up to a 650 tank for just a few months worth of insurance.

If i was in your position i would stick as i am with the 650... and as said above you will be saving on having to fill up half way through the day. If i ever do that my wife always finds something for me to do while im back that is never quick

thanks for all your replies lads i know what its like coming home at lunch to fill up and the mrs finding us work so i think it will stay with the 650 for now. my insurance is up the end of jan 2012 and is with aplan i am paying £665 so will have to wait and see what they come back with.

Owen window cleaning seriously your wasting time and effort luggin barrels about.far easier with a tank and 100m of microbore.its easy fitting a tank if you have eyelets in van floor.simply rachet strap it down tight and hook trolley to tank,plug in reel and away you go!simple.

my local NFU branch said they would'nt insure me with tank when i enquired last week .  I think a lot of companies are deciding not to insure .  MIKE

I hope its not all insurance company's that are going to get funny about the tanks we carry or we could all be going over to the back packs and trolleys.

dont know why you all go running to the insurance companies to tell em you have a water tank in the back . mine is a 650 litre that is strapped in . i am on my insurance as an odd job man ,carrying water has never been mentioned and i have never brought it up . i paid £300 last renewal
