Well after two years i had my first carpet shrunk , cleaned it yesterday morning got phone call half seven tonight so ive been round had a look .
The carpet has popped of the grippers and is laying on top of them maybe cm and half away from the skirting on one side of the room got a carpet fitter going round tomorrow afternoon hopefully it will go back .
When i went to quote for the job three weeks ago i checked the backing as it looked like bw but the backing was plain so i now think it may be a axminister ,  now im  thinking there may have been a bit off a gap between the carpet and skirting before i started but im sure it was on the grippers.
Any way ive told the customer that ive got somone coming round tomorrow and that ill cover the cost
what are the chances of it going back ?

Gavin,

In the ideal world you would leave the carpet a bit longer to fully dry and relax. I usually reckon a week if I am to restretch flooded carpets.

Also the chances of stretching the carpet back are improved greatly if your carpet fitter has a power stretcher. I have been able to rescue many carpets using one.

wasting your time tomorrow, if it shrank/shrunk!!! then its got a fair bit of moisture innit still, give it 3 days minimum.

cancel the fitter and re-book for next week. This action will improve your chances of success.

in future remember that it hasn't shrunk.......... it has returned to its actual size after being over stretched when fitted, while cleaning it the power of your vacuum pulled it of the gripper which allowed it to return to its pre-stretched size

cheers lads it was a shock to the systerm when i went round to have look and it deffo given me a kick up the backside but this year ive been really busy with the carpet and upholstery cleaning side compeared to last year and ive really be enjoying it now im really cheesed of with myself

Gavin, if there was a gap between carpet & skirting it wasn't on the grippers properly, it needs to be tucked right down between gripper and skirting.  As Mike said it could have been cut a bit shy and they over-stretched it when fitting.

OR...

A Wilton will not be flexible across the width of the carpet, an axminster will be flexible in both directions.  Wiltons therefore don't tuck in behind the gripper very easily down the sides, so easy to come away

Could be a sign of previous shrinking... sorry, "returning to proper size"

Don't worry mate sh*t happens, you just have to handle it well with the customer and make sure the outcome is positive for them.

I'm cleaning for a customer tomorrow whose dining room chair I damaged once!  I took it away and got it fixed, brought it back the next day and they've remained a good regular customer ever since.

And I have to agree, cancel the fitter for tomorrow, get him back on Friday or Monday

ive handle the customer side well i was round with in ten mins of them phoneing even when i was there they were ok not mad or anything  told them i will sort out a carpet fitter and cover the cost and they were happy with that

Step 6 - Drying Times - Carpets will be dry with in 3 to 6 hours depending

just you say upto 6 hours drying times a thought you might use karcher  or similar was gona say that might have caused it

Carpet was fixed today so all is now ok customer is happy , the carpet fitter was there before i got there and already started and had already informed the customer that when the carpet had been fitted originally it was not fitted right ( something to do with the grippers ).
But the main thing is its fixed and customer is happy , but its given me a kick up the arse.
On the plus side the carpet fitter didnt charge me just got to clean his stair and landing carpet , and booked in another 3 jobs today.
