Smell of gas

We have a l5 heater fitted,and it really smells of gas when I turn the bottle on and the smell doesn't go away
I've checked all the joints,any ideas?

42 views and nobody got any ideas. I'll help you out before you go BOOOOOMMMMM!!!!!

Check the supply from the gas bottle. If it is a screw in then don't use PTFE tape but the jointing gunk for gas connections. You can get this from B & Q

Get the washing up liquid out and see where you are getting a leak from. Anywhere you suspect put a covering of fairy on it and look for bubbles.

Tighten as necessary!!

Thanks mate I've put the fairy where it screws into the bottle there's no leak there,may try the gunk stuff just in case,could it be in the l5 unit it self?

I haven't seen the internals of an L5 but I do use a lot of gas in one of the vans. Unless the seal is spot on between the bottle and the connector screw it will leak gas.

I doubt that it will be anywhere else unless it has been stressed or dropped.

i used to be CORGI registared for LPG, DO NOT USE THE HEATER!

get it all pressure tested by someone who knows what they are doing before you explode in your van,

 you cant mess about with lpg it is a lot more explosive than domestic gas in your house, it does not evaporate as quickly and can collect on the floor of your van and then ignite when you get in and start the engine.

I used to think like that, I'm never going back now. Cold wfp is just not good enough for me anymore. And I do a lot of maintenance cleans, few one offs or first cleans. It's so much quicker it's not even funny anymore. Still waiting for my mushroom vent (made to order, only just got send in post to me) but I hate it when I can't have my doors open, and have to use cold.

Once it's set up properly, it works just as reliably as the cold system. (here's hoping it will stay like that)

A tiny amount of gas can smell a lot. It is probably leaking between the regulator and the bottle or possibly the connection to the l5 itself. Metal on metal is very difficult to get airtight, you need to really wrench the spanner hard.
