« on: October 29, 2011, 07:26:44 pm »
Hi
Went to price up new job to day
Plasters have plastered a wall over the glass they have cleaned
The glass three times but can not get water spots off .
The plaster is a self coured plaster. I think it could be k render not sure.
It comes from Germany.
Any answers as to how to clean it.
Only found out about the plasters after I had priced the job
So will have to go back and reprice.
Thanks

External glass.
No plaster left on glass.
Just lots of water marks that don't come off.

Try using patio cleaner.

Put on rubber gloves as it's an acid.
Wet the area around the window.
Wet a sponge.
Pour on patio cleaner slowly untill it drips out the sponge once or twice.
Wipe over window a few times.
Make sure no runs go down wall etc.
Use lots of water to wash off window.

Don't get any splashes etc onto any metal, i.e. door handles, etc. It'll discolour permantly.

Cheers

as ross says, the spots are alkaline based so an acid is required

This is getting quite funny.

I can post what I want because what I post is invisible.

Yes.... try a razor. Brilliant.

Have you maybe wondered why cleaning company's sell (expensive) branded acid type cleaners to remove water stains, mineral deposits and like. It's obviously got nothing to do with the fact it works?

As Stu says, acid and alkalines.

Also, how is a water stain/mark/mineral deposit going to 'wear off'? What's going to happen on that paine of glass to 'wear it off'? Maybe ants with mini hobnail boots dancing the cha cha? Spiders with abrasive feet? Wasps armed with a bic razor?

 ;D

Sorry to take the p..., but egg plant sap?

I went around to Mrs Jone's houses and while discussing cleaning her windows she mentioned that she had a problem with egg plant sap. I said to not worry Mrs Jones, egg plant sap can be a real problem. We in the window cleaning industry have experience of such problems and I can remove more egg plant sap than the egg plant can sap at your windows. She was so relieved when I showed her my special egg plant sap remover tools that she gave me a cup of tea. I got to work straight away and before even my tea was drunk, all the egg plant sap was removed in a jiffy.

I honestly mean no offense but it just read funny about 'egg plant sap'.

I am not to keen on using acid  as there is quite
a lot of metal around the windows.
Also the windows are the curtain wall to a stairway
That are three floors high with no access to get a ladder
  into the court yard
So can not blade the windows as my arms are to short

i should have used tthe quote function for my post i suppose

but it wasnt in response to you..im not saying chemicals dont work on alkaline stains

my post was in response to the person advising a scourer for egg plant

then i said what I tell the customer, because i dont use such chemicals....which is my choice is it not?...im not advising YOU personally to say anything of the sort

mainly because your not the one using a scourer to remove egg plant ffs

but thanks for your sarcasm...:)

I was laughing at the suggestion to use fairy liquid!

I just use it for washing the dishes!

On topic i would use a special acid cleaner fr somewhere like the windowclean centre.
price higher/work harder!

You want to be really careful its not some form of coated glass before you start playing with acid and scourers or scrapers. There is also the possibility that the render has etched the glass (or the coating) in which case nothing will get it off. Plaster doesn't usually but cement can etch.. If you have spots that won't come off I would start walking away now saying that you are reluctant to try using anything stronger than soap and water. Which I would imagine has already been tried

Its only a job, theres always another one right around the corner. If somebody else can get it off then good for them but I would be long gone.
