No pre-cleaning inspection and not defining the construction of the carpet!!

Once you are professional enough to be able to distinguish different types of carpet construction you will have NO problems with shrinkage.

YES, I have shrunk carpets ::) ::) ::) in the earlydays, before my IICRC training.

I get better looking each day!!

Definately over wetting and mis-understanding of carpet construction.

Not necessarily water too hot, chemicals used or poor fitting but all can have an effect.

In my limited opinion.

Kind regards,
Jason.

Carpets don't shrink very often  - usually the rooms get bigger overnight.
It's a game of three halves!

over wetting is not the main cause of carpet shrinkage.

its under drying.

i have fully sumerged rugs that are prone to shrinkage but i control the drying process so no damage is caused.

also salvaged carpets which are 3 inch deep in water again its all in the drying process.

Carpets that cant be cleaned with water in the first place.  I shrank a carpet which had a woven jute face but I told him it would shrink and you know the rest.  Still a valued customer.

My view on this........

There is only one reason when all factors are considered.

Poor workmanship:  (A poor workman always blames his tools).

Whether it is using wrong or poor equipment and or cleaning agents, too much water, too little drying, being untrained, being inexperienced, misjudging or not checking fitting and or carpet type etc, etc
it all adds up to bad workmanship,
Once you touch the carpet you are responsible for your actions, no outside factors are to blame.

Pre qualifying with the customer potential risks is good practice and good professional CCs should have no worries about shrinkage occurring.

However,
most honest CCs will also admit to at least one mishap in their time.

Regards Ian.
