I got.some wine.and.beer cleaner/ steriliser from tesco.
It doesnt give whats im it?

Im experimenting getting out wine stains from 80/20 wool carpet samples using the heat transfer method.
would it get red paint or ink out as well?

Sodium metabisulphite is used as a home brew steriliser, so you would have to presume that's what it is.  But if you're not sure you could eb wasting your time trying to use this stuff when it's not the right thing.  I would be suspicious, seems as it is a "retail" product, that it might not be "full strength" or might even be a "safe" alternative to the real deal.

Why risk it?  Get some off eBay, costs a few quid for 100g delivered to your door.  Cheap as chips.

By the way, Ink is a job for solvent.  Red wine is a job for hydrogen peroxide (oxidiser).  Sod met is a reducing agent, wrong way round for red wine

Please practice lots at home first!!

Jim,I know this is off the `thread`topic,but what would you
Use,or do you use when cleaning the fringes on say Indian
Or Chinese rugs ?
Something to lighten them,I used to use Stapro`s `Sta-White`
Then Pro-Chems `Oxibrite`I think it`s called,but Oxibrite
Was`nt as good as the Stapro product,which are now sadly
Obsolete.

Fringe bleaches are generally frowned upon nowadays because they destroy the cotton.

If I'm confronted with very dirty fringes they'll get a damn good soaking with appropriate cleaning product, then ideally power washed off or failing that hand tool upside down and a bit of jiggery pokery to flush them through very thoroughly.

I treat them afterwards with a very strong mix of browning solution, which may help with any previous browning and will stop any browning happening from the cleaning.  Needless to say I make sure they are dried in good time too.

But seriously HP has always been the conventional treatment for red wine, but if it works for you reducing them, then fair enough

I know Chemspec do a good de-browning presciption powder.
Never used it myself.
Whats the difference between say a reducing bleach,peroxide,
And a de-browning product ?

and fruit juices, and is very good.

When all else fails sod met on red wine ever time ,

never a problem , just the smell.

I,m not sure what method Derick now uses with sod met , he did use a steam gun i believe , untill I put him right  :  very hot water sprayed or dabbed on should do the trick, hair dryer to speed up process.

"Smash" powdered potato contains Sodium metabisulphite... Wonder if that works...

Yes but it mainly contains potato 

Have you seen the new paint out now made from potatoes. B & Q sell it.

I tried it out last week but found that it chips badly.
