Hi,
What size water tank would you need on a Truck Mount to be able to work all day, without refilling?
I was surprised to read that a lot of TM users have to refill a couple of times a day, seems like a real hassle to me!
 You are losing some of the time that you saved by using a Tm ( cleaning faster) by having to fill up again.

Chris i run off the hose pipe all the time, (no room for tank ) on the smaller jobs ie domestic lounge carpet a fresh watertank would be a bonus, on the longer stay jobs filling a tank would be no hassle at all, i presume the lads who carry fresh water tanks would plan this in to there day,

How much water you use with a TM depends on a couple of things.

 First of all which TM you have. Some of them dump water into the waste tank to cool the system down. So if you put the wand down while pre-spraying you could be still using water. Some water softeners also dump water as well.

Secondly it very much depends on the type of work you are doing. If you clean small domestic houses you are unlikely to use large quantities. However you can go through hundreds of gallons on very large domestic and commercial jobs.

I carry 120 gallons, which for me will usually be used by lunchtime. However you quickly learn to hook up to the nearest tap to conserve supplies. I have had a tm for 9 years and it has not been a problem yet. I don't understand why you would need to go home to get water. All of our clients have taps and running water - and you can be filling as you are working.

My Prochem Performer dumps water to maintain temp and I have a water softener that dumps 10 gals every 55 gals. I also have a high proportion of large jobs which mean that with a 2 man team the wand is fairly constantly on the go. I have no problems using that much water (carpet sock dry in 1 to 2 hours).

If you allow for 4 hours work before lunch, that equates to £150 per hour. Aren't all truck mount guys doing this?

PS It is very noticeabe how much less water you use when you have a day of smaller jobs. The machine hours are very low and all the time is taken up with  driving, setting up and packing away.

For me the time savings are setup a little, actual wanding little bit more, continous working without the need to fill and empty the portable, a lot.

Get a 120gallon tank custom made to sit under the TM.  The waste tank sits at the back on top as per normal.  Enough water to last.

Never had room for a fresh water tank, so used a hose pipe, have been doing this for 6 years now, and yes when there is no outside tap I use the kitchen/sink/bathroom tap, which ever is best fit.
You learn to adapt your system to suit.
However never in 6 years have I arrived and started within 4  minutes. Pre inspection springs to mind, then vac, then prespray, then setting up etc

The answer of 4 mins was reffering to the actual time it takes to set up the TM to be able to clean, setting aside pre vacuuming, but including pre-spraying as this is part of the cleaning cycle re the TM.
