I put my website together myself and purchaced pictures from Fotolia. However I overlooked one of the pictures I used when I set it up. This was a picture downloaded from the web and placed on my site. I intended to replace with a Fotolia picture, but didn't really want the page. The page has not been linked to my main site for years and I should have deleted the page altogether. I forgot.I am now in reciept of a bill from Getty Images for unlicened use of a picture thay have the rights to. That bill is for £968.00 Lesson. Unless you know where the pictures come from dont use them as they may find and fine you.

Sureley if its an unlinked page then you are only guilty of copying and hosting it and not 'using' it as such. I'd be tempted to tell them the same and tell the to shove their bill as you aint using it and don't want to use it.
Sunshine Cleaning, I will also be pursuing a claim for compensation from you for identity theft. Had no idea that your name was Lance as well. Now that's just too bloody freaky for words.

They send out a scan of your website with the date and time it was scanned, a bit like a speed camera photo. I was told that you will not get away with not paying something, and they have taken people to court over their images and they always win. Its best to say sorry, and negotiate.
a hosted image and one stored in your browser is totally different, they protect their sellers copyright material

The host get asked to remove it. These picture/ video hosters would be bust now if they had to pay for every removed/copyrighted stuff !! They've a right to bring it to your attention and demand its removal.

Mike instead of arguing a point, why not speak with them, you will find you are way off the mark mate, they are not stupid, nor will they except answers like hosting companies are asked to removed it etc, they go direct to source, that being the person that pays the hosting, you will need to look at the hosting companies t&c's it will say they are not liable, it is you (you being the person paying or account it is).

Point me to a case where someone has been made by a court to pay £900 for using an image they where told to remove.

The files on there are password protected - so presumably Getty's spiders can't access those pages.
