Are Chem Dry dropping prices?
« on: October 12, 2011, 03:59:10 pm »
Just had a call from a guy who said he'd had a quote of £80 from Chem Dry for a 10x12 lounge, same size bedroom,a small dining room and a hallway.

I told him that was very cheap for Chem Dry and to make sure hes heard the right figure.Does anyone know if they are currently droppong prices?

I did a lounge last week and the client said they wanted £85 just for the lounge.

Confused ???

They don't have fixed prices. It would depend on which franchise quoted. Most of them are huge concerns with big overheads however there are still a few small operators around with one or two licenses.

'buyers are liars'

when i sold double glazing they always said that the customers is not stupid they will lie to get a lower prices, I've done it my self...... told someone i could get it cheaper down the road but would rather use them as the are more local

its a ploy to get a better deal

Totally agree with you Mike, customers do tell porkies like that... they think people are stupid and will just drop their price in reaction the the fictional "other quote".

Truth is all of us are stupid some of the time, and some of us are stupid all of the time :D

But whenever I've been in this situation and asked to see the written quote, guess what?  Nothing materialises ;)  Phone quotes are not quotes, they are estimates from the information given, and how many times have we turned up to clean a "12x12" lounge that is actually an 18x14 lounge?!!

However I too have noticed the local CD franchises are quoting much less than before, when I've actually had a conversation based on the truth with trustworthy customers - the ones who've chosen me to do the work but still tell me the other estimates they've had.  No need for them to lie at that stage so no real evidence needed.

I have recently lost out on 2 quotes to Chem Dry where the customer wanted the cheapest quote. The loss of insurance work might be making them desperate.

Just beaten them to a small lounge and staircase
no furniture.
They wanted £130 so didn't take much beating.
Had quite a few ChemDry rejects.

I contacted my local chem dry a couple of weeks ago and asked for quote to clean 140 banqeting chairs at a hotel where we do the extraction systems, £6.50 per chair was the quote,    :o    what is the norm for this sort of work never bothered phoning round to get any more quotes, just called my supplier and got some chems hired a karcher and had it done in day for £350.

The hotel want us to do it quarterly now, result. :D

Seat pads only?  Seat pad and single sided back pad?  Or Seat pad and double sided back pad?

They might not have wanted the work.  I'd charge that for domestic dining chairs fully upholstered, but as part of a bigger job

Big volumes of commercial seating you need to be between £2.50 and £4.00 to be competitive, but so many variables involved it's difficult to say, there isn't a one size fits all.

Just a thought..... Subtract from the £350 the cost of hiring that machine, the chems and all your other costs and you might have been able to make similar profit from subbing in a truckmount operator to whizz through it, and put 20% on top of his invoice ;)

Jim that's just for starters what about insurance? I know nothing can go wrong but Philip Mold may tell you different and he seems a decent fellow not someone who rushes or takes risks, plus what about any spots and stain treatments specialised products come at a price.

Well done if nothing has gone wrong but if it does "you aint see me right!"
