first job and im bricking it!
« on: October 03, 2011, 03:53:55 pm »
Right guys thanks for all of your advice today i got my first ever job and im bricking it lady rang up today and i quoted £50 over the phone to clean a 100% woolen beige medium sized rug im picking it up on thursday to clean in my garage and im dropping it off on the monday cause the ladys goin away. The only trouble is im a bit confused because the lady said to my partner the rug is dry clean only so im not sure if i can do it because i have a heated ashby ninja. Will i be able to do it with my machine ive done my own rug which is cream and it turned out fine.
Please guys help me out as how i should tackle this should i treat it the same as my own and use the ninja or turn the job down

Thanks

Colin Day

I don't want to sound negative, but I wouldn't attempt your first job on such a rug without doing a rug cleaning course.

I have seen where rugs have been warped by over wetting, perhaps you should leave it until you're 100% confident in what you are doing....

Why take the risk if your not 100% sure of what you're doing? I'd carry on practicing for a bit longer if you've only done one rug so far.

Best not to experiment on custys valuable items, if you're unsure, it
would be CRUCIAL to get some training. This will tell you what you need to know.
Knowledge is power.  ;)

Possible problems to a novice...yellowing, shrinkage, pile distortion, colour bleed.

Just do it mate and if you screw it up you will have 2 shopping days to find her an identical one! She will be amazed at how clean you got it and will tell all her mates about you!!

had tryed first , f*** what amess . and it had cost her £600,
that was reduced because it was shop soiled, if you are going to
risk it for a biscuit

How do you intend to make money.

Dry cleaning fluid 5 litres £25

fuel to pick up and drop.

Its a no-brainer leave it alone.

Remember the rule of business- Profit, Profit Profit
Second Rule- You don't do favours for anyone- she's phoned you. amongst others, your the cheapest, bollox it up, this rug will be worth £600.

Is this serious?
you have quoted over the phone no checks for stains nothing ..... no tests and your new to rugs / even carpets?  .. good luck ... we have been cleaning for yrs recently did all checks still got bit in the arse... does not matter if its cheap or not if u screw it up still going to cost u!!
One thing we have learnt from rugs check check and check cover yourself completely take pics of any issues, record, inform customer - if in doubt walk away its not worth it!!

One option would be to take it to a dry cleaners. They send rugs off for cleaning. Although you won't learn anything this way, would be nice if someone could do it for you and show you.

When people describe rugs on here from a description over the phone from a customer it really is p1ssing in the wind. Good luck and maybe stick to carpets for a while.
It's not expensive, you just can't afford it.
