High Up On `Google`Web Site Advice
« on: September 30, 2011, 04:56:33 pm »
Had a youngish sounding fella phone me today.
Said it was a business call.He said that on a `google`
Search I was 19th, or something. That’s how he found me.
He was offering some sort of deal that would get me
On the first page I think he said.
I said I was`nt interested.Thinking about,I am a little
( well in fact a lot) short of work and could do with a
Bit of a boost.
How do I go about getting myself noticed a bit more via
My web site and what would be the approximate cost be?
Is it worth doing anything like this.
I did`nt get around to asking him any details like that, price
Etc.

Thanks  for replies.

I do the SEO myself for our website and we feature on the first page for most of our targeted phrases.  I know its a different market but the principles are the same.  Let me know your URL and I shall have a look over it for you.

Had the same call yesterday.
I asked him what search term he used to find us at the bottom of page 2. He said some long winded phrase that we don't target.
I told him to try 'window cleaner london'.
After the silence he said it must have cost a fortune to get there. My reply 'nope, thank you for the call, goodbye'
I can pass our seo company details to you if you want. (not if you're in London though)    :)

I do the SEO for my site too.

There's no need to pay someone to do it for you. If a company is trying to sell you this service you want to see how good they are; so put something like 'SEO' into google and see where they rank on the results page. If they're nowhere to he seen then they're not doing a very good job.

Lewis, a lot depends on where you are and how competitive the market is for your search terms.
If you amongst just a handful of window cleaners targeting your area, then ranking well can be done with little effort.
Like Mark said,  post your www address. There are a number of people on here that can give you some simple pointers about how your site is put together.

In the HTML pages of your site homepage find the following code, near the top of the page and fill in the keywords/description between the speech marks. keywords = what you think people will put in to a search engine when looking for a service like yours. I would go with window cleaning west riding, window cleaning, window cleaner etc. Seperate each keyword or phrase with a comma and a space
i.e window, cleaning, window cleaning,
Like this
<meta name="keywords" content="FILL IN YOUR KEYWORDS HERE" />
<meta name="description" content="FILL IN A DESCRIPTION OF YOUR SITE AND INCLUDE A COUPLE OF KEYWORDS" />

The text within your homepage should mention 'window cleaners [area]) a couple of times. (no more than 10% of the total text on the page)
Where you have got 'Gleem Clean' at the top on the picture, that is a Heading tag. Change that to 'window cleaners [area]' and put Gleem clean somewhere else.

Get yourself a map listing on Google Places.

There are a lot of free tools here http://www.webmaster-toolkit.com/

Also, your title tag should have window cleaners west riding in it.
You will find this in the HTML page above the keyword & description

FROM <title>Gleem Clean</title>
TO      <title>window cleaners west riding | Gleem Clean</title>

trippy,

not much wrong with your site.

add a heading of 'window cleaners bristol' and use the same phrase in your text a couple of times.
get a map listing on google places.

And of course, and this goes for everyone, build links links links.
