i have a friend of mine who sorting out a price for me now, alot depends on what you earn.ie if you earn £600 a week you dont want a pay out of £250 aweek

he also says that the company he deal with pay out from day 1.and not after 20days,so something to watch out for there.and i know hes true to his word cause a friend has a policy from him and he had a heart attack and been paid from day 1.

The cover you are looking for is Income Protection Insurance which is insurance on your wages if you become ill or suffer an accident. The premiums are determined by your age and the amount you want per week/month.

A very good mate of mine is an IFA and can arrange this for you.
If you email at tim@diversefinancialplanning.co.uk or ring Tim on  07799 623110.

Tell him that you are a CIU member and mention me and he will sort out some sort of financnial incentive for your benefit.

How does this work? say you earn x amount per month and want to claim that, what is from stopping someone being ott and claiming silly money - does the ins comp want to see the previous years books to confirm the average?  ???

If you are self employed they need to know what profit the business made as that would be your income.  If anyone wants to read the insurers definition and how they calculate your earnings please email me and I will get a copy wording emailed to you, or ring Tim as per my post above.

In my experience income protection is very expensive has lots of small print to avoid payment !

It is a good idea to try and have in reserve three months income in case of not being able to work.

Obviously life insurance is a must.

Samson,

Like life insurance it's cheaper the younger you are when you arrange it.

Your idea sounds cheaper but not as easy as it sounds.

I have cover which will payout 75% of my earnings until age 65 , it doesnt pay out for 21 days ,  But the ones that do payout straight away only pay out for a year .

Now i know what you're thinking i wont be off all that long but who can ever predict how badly you may be injured in an accident ,

If i did have a Life changing accident i would much happier knowing i will have an income to pay my bills and  not lose my house and everything else that me and my wife have worked hard for .     MIKE

Mike,

That sounds very sensible to me.  You just never know what could happen.

It sounds like you have income protection insurance which will pay if you are off work ill as well, not only if you have an accident.  It is impossible to know what illnesses anyone could contract and how long they could keep you off work.

Almost everyone insurers their house and other belongings as its commonplace and drilled into us by advertising, but if you havent insured your wages you couldn't pay for all these things.

the one that i have pays 65% i think of your weekly income until age 65 or recovery.  With regards to the time it kicks in, that is up to you but obviously the price is higher if you want cover after 1 day than cover after 1 week

M and m and G Brookes would you mind telling me who your cover is with as it sounds like the kind of thing I need. Cheers
