Vikan Swivel Brush
« on: September 26, 2011, 05:35:38 pm »
Started a new job today 41 flats in total, some of the windows have railings bit of a pain but still cleanable.

Some of the railings I can get my brush under to clean all the glass.. and some of the railing are closer to the window by an inch or two so I am unable to get my brush under certain parts to clean.

Has anyone used this vikan swivel brush? I think being 8" wide would be a benefit but I'm just wondering if I'll be able to clean all the glass with it.

i do a residential home with rail windows I used to use  the swivel brush but since getting a superlite I manage fine you'd be better off with a superlite extreme it's really narrow.

Hi Mr Hill,
Its not a true swivel brush. The pole holder can be adjusted to various angles and a threaded ring locks it into position. I bought one for those juilet balconys and found it was a waste of time. The brush is narrow so you end up having to feed it into every second bar. The bristles on the brush I have are rounded at each end meaning that the brush doesn't clean corners very well unless you have plenty of weight on it.
I tried it on a couple of other jobs but generally disappointed with it as a window cleaning brush.

The best brush for juilet balconies is the oval vikan IMO as the pole mounting is at a more acute angle than the general brush and so doesn't need an angle adaptor. The problem is that they are too heavy.
I currently use a Superlight Double trim. The angle adaptor needs to be straight as the bars are too close to the french doors otherwise, but i manage OK with it.

I also find that it works best for me by cleaning the windows that are above the metal bars as I would any other window. I have found that if I stand very close to the wall I can get the pole and brush up through the gap at the bottom and clean all the bottoms of the windows and doors through this gap. Then rinse through the bars. It saves having to keep feeding the brush in through the bars which has to be done at an angle. Downside is that you get wet.

i clean a lot of windows like this with metal bars,  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UpNiSj9nUZQ&feature=related
i know the type your talking about that are very close to the glass, use a thin stocked brush with bristles that splay well, using your swivel just keep the brush side ways between each bar, for these i use the tecbuk brush as it is small, and splays well, mind charge extra as these ones take twice as long to clean
