Indian stone Sealer
« on: September 24, 2011, 08:34:45 pm »
Hi, got a few indian stone sealing jobs over the coming weeks, but as with the weather being how it is i am reluctant to use a solvent based sealer that i normally use, I want to set a date and do it, not dodge rain or damp ground, can anyone recomend a good, resonably priced water based matt sealer/impregnator for INDIAN STONE? I want something that will enhane the colour like a solvent product would bu no keen on using resiblocks sealer or stone due to the price, I need 25 litres, thought about using resiblock trade though? Can anyone recommend anything? And would I be able to lay it if the ground is a bit damp/moist?
thanks
Lee

Lee,

I think you have answered your own question, if it is damp don't seal.
I have heard mixed reports on the Resiblock trade so for me I wouldn't use it.
I have tested Resiblock's natural stone sealer, which seems ok, but to be honest I use other brands on natural stone.

Yes, but i believe with water based sealers you can seal in damp conditions I have heard,
looked at rsiblock natural stone sealer but far to pricey for the 60 m2 job I have this week, what sealers do you use mate? can you recommend any?
Thanks

Personally I wouldn't risk sealing in damp conditions even with acrylic, look at the problems you get with PIC, the sealer's we use are more expensive then Resiblock.

Off the top of my head can't recommend any water based sealer's for natural stone, not even sure if they make them, Kevin who is on here might know as he supplies sealer's, one of his is what we use, Aqua-mix.

That's the other one we use, Stain Stop, but it might be to expensive for what Kenny is wanting.

Thanks for the advice mate, this particular indian stone has been previously sealed with an acrylic, but th type you ould use on pic, because it is natural stone it hasn't penetrated and has peeled over time, Ive got the job of stripping it then sealing it, the sealer I usually use for indain stone is adseal ultra, which is a solvent based impregntor (think it's a high grade acrylic, not like a PIC/block paved type though), it's £90 for 25litres, but ot sure onthe performane of it, timescale wise, also was looking for an alternative for jobs i may get in winter, i'll check that lithian stuff out though, thanks for the advice guys  :)

Most water based sealers don't enhance and if they claim to they are not as good as genuine enhancing sealers.  By their very nature they are expensive to purchase but then you get what you pay for.  My preference is Aqua Mix Enrich N Seal.  But it is probably the most expensive sealer you can buy.
