I know everyone has different ways of doing these, and different chems but is their a particular way of tackling these. My reason for asking is got the chance to practise clean one at my local as they plan to replace soon anyway, as i have not done course yet have stayed away from jobs like this, but as i have nothing to lose would like to give it a go, thought of using a enzym prespray then rinse with crystal green after a lot of agitating or trying m/s then formula 90 any tips would be good.

ps total respect to all of you guys anyone who thinks this is easy business to get into are mad the effort you must put into getting work and survive is amazing even before you do the job which due to the use of rug doctors, people think is easy.

Paul,

Restaurants are usually greasy so an enzyme pre spray followed by Crystal Green or Formula 90 will give good results.

Enzyme products are designed to attack different soil so a protease will break down blood , egg , milk etc and a lipolase will break down fat.

The major drawback of enzymes is that the dust in very small quantities is an asthma sensitiser so you should rinse thoroughly.

I have never used MS in restaurants but I'm sure some have and got good results.

It is worth getting the water hot as this makes a big difference in dirty situations.

Have you thought about marketing to restaraunts?

I am interested in why they let their carpets get so bad? Do you think that its down to us as carpet cleaners not giving them ways to keep them clean all the time. I know money in the food trade is tight but most small ones could be cleaned once or twice a year for less money on a maintance plan than leaving them until they get so bad that to clean them its going to cost loads?

This might be the reason that because they are so dirty we will change more than if they had them clean more often. Carpets are a major investment for these people so it just does not make sence.

It must affect their custom,

One idea that I am thinking about is tile cleaning is a great add on for us and they need by law to keep their kitchens clean, so this might be a way in to clean the carpets?

Ian,
I assumed you all marketed to these type of places anyway. saying that though this carpet is minging near the kitchen and tile cleaning would be a definate no go, saw i t the other day, not nice. say no more
ps my add on is 150 good priced window cleaning customers, would not survive without them as very hard to get carpet customers at the start as you all know they don't want to spend.

Prochem withdrew their enzyme products but you can still buy from Chemspec, Stapro etc

Yesterday one of my customers was a chemisrty teacher and on discussing enzymes she said the dangers of these products are now taught as part of the GCSE course,

Enzymes are catalysts which means they help  a reaction but remain unchanged themselves.

So when we use them for example , we will leave some in the carpet and the enzyme dust can then go on to catalyse other reactions.

Proteases ( enzymes which work on proteins) can cause asthma sensitisation in some people.

Food enzymes have been blamed for affecting development of reproductive systems .

Theres loads of stuff on the internet.
