What to do - PIA custy
« on: September 21, 2011, 07:39:09 pm »
Called to a customer today, a text night before job, to clean windows. Gate open no problems. Complete the work and knock for payment.

"Oh, I owe you for last month too, don't I"

"Yes, £8.00 for last month because you forgot to open the gate and didn't send payment and £19.00 for today making a total of £27.00."

"I'm a bit busy now, can you leave an envelope and I will send payment".

A questioning look from me.

"I know I forgot last month but I will do it today"

"How about you do me the cheque today when you have time, leave it under the mat for me and I will call back in about 2 hours when I am finished in her and collect it."

"ok, no problem'.

Called back 2 hours later and no cheque and no answer. This as a 500k house with two big cars. She has always been a terrible payer but always got it in the end, usually when I catch her in when I clean. I just feel she crossed over into p taking today. I dicked uo the houise directly opposite for £20.00 a month today so am thinking of dropping her to accomodate the new job. Still hate to let a £19.00 25 minute clean go though.

As you have her mobile number keep her as a customer and text her each day after cleaning to remind her she still owes you... She will soon get fed up and start paying on time.

No too bothered with revenge. Want to get paid though. She is of a certain ethnic (subcontinent) extraction and was refered to me by an existing customer. This existing customer has refered me to 4 new customers in total. Each has a huge house and all but one has proved to be a total PIA.

Tell her you have checked your credit rating chart, and she has dropped into the risk category, so from now on it is cash before clean only, no cash no clean, she will be horrified and drop you anyway, but hey you tried

I'm not sure really. They could be Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi.  But they are certainly paininthearsei.

David, get the money then give her your bank details ask her to set up standing order for your choice of date tell her that's how it is.

Or three payments up front.

She won't bother.

jog on problem customer

I've a £40 account that two of us can do in fifteen minutes (and Wor Lass isn't quick), so I quite like the job, but the lass is slow to send a cheque.

But for the past six months I've had her paying by bank transfer; and when I give my bank details to a customer, I always ask for their e-mail address.

I give her 7 days to pay, which she doesn't; then I e-mail her.  I then wait another 7 days (I put it in my diary) and e-mail her again.  It usually takes two e-mail reminders to get paid, but I always get paid, and since it's no hassle to send an e-mail, I don't drop her.

Maybe you could do something like that?

She has by bank details on the slip I leave her every month. I think I will do as you do but text chase her instead of email. It's a pain though, just another layer of admin to work through.

it won't work, she will pay when she feels like it, tell her no clean unless payment upfront, whether by cash, internet or standing order, she will either a. get some on else or b, pay up

trust me just stop cleaning and see what her reaction is and offer your terms if she asks

I have an ex customer who phoned after about 6 months who owes £18, I explained no cleaning will take place until it is paid, the cheeky bugger said well do the next clean and we will pay, to which I replied no pay the amount due and I will think about it, I then received an email saying what is the web address so I can pay ??? she found my email address but couldn't find my website, I don't think so, I couldn't give a toss about the £18 but no way is any more work is getting done until I am paid.

if I wanted to work for free I would go to a charity shop and offer my services

Never take on origin indian sub-continent customers if you can help it.
