Hi,

I have my R/O outside that goes into a 210l water butt and I fill up barrels from there.

This is going to be a major issue in the minus nights and days as my filters and stuff will freeze up and I guess crack, hoses will all freeze etc.

How do you guys prevent this?

Also do you guys add anything to the stored water to prevent freezing?

If you put enough in it should work, but it's not cheap. Then again not working will cost you by not doing it. THere's an advert at the top that's selling anti frost stuff.  When my tank was in the garage, I used to lag it with old duvets etc.

IF sorry WHEN it does freeze this winter I can gurantee that the RO will freeze .. the housing will split and the ro will be knackered.

Can you not set it up in the garage or kitchen if no garage.

If no then at least use some hozelock connectors to make RO quick release ... the hozelock take up to 100 psi I think so unless you have a booster pump or massively good tap pressure then this should work

Iso will stop everything from freezing and you can work longer on cold days as well...it even makes the glass shine better....gives it that little extra gleam...

Dont get Iso anywhere near your RO unit.

You are going to have to build a little shed around your unit, insulate it and put a heater inside if you can't use it indoors. Membranes are not cheap.

I deffo think making a little insulated shed around the R/O will suffice.

What is good to wrap around hoses?

my ro is outside as well i have a hoselock coupler
on which connects to a short piece of half inch hose
pipe which is fitted to outside tap. i simply disconnect
and take in at night.

if the temps get anywhere near as low as last year
i wouldnt risk leaving out unless you have any heat near
it.

filter during day take in at night simples!

I did not think of this as have my R/O going 24/7 into a water butt.

Excuse to upgrade to a higher GPD.

and if your water butt outside then that will freeze up so you got a block of ice.


you could always then cut up in to clubes bag up and sell pure ice cubes

when using trolley , i would fill containers on a night then put in garage with a double duvet over them works sometimes not always , or take a few in the house overnight .
