Nerves canvassing
« on: September 15, 2011, 05:46:04 pm »

I'm a newbie, tradding it part time, don't have too many customers at the moment because I don't seem to have the balls to go out canvassing. Its crazy because I would talk to any Tom, Dick and Harry but when it comes to knocking on doors and offering my window cleaning services I cant get the confidence up! Anyone got anything that would inspire me? Or any tips? Anything to help me MAN UP and canvass?

Thanks scott

Try thinking about the worst thing that can happen...

1.  They'll say 'no thank you'.

2.  They'll ask how much and then say 'no thank you'.

3.  They may answer the door, look a little bit grumpy, and say 'no thank you'.

The only thing you're really frightened of is feeling like a pikey idiot.  It's just a feeling; feelings aren't facts 'n' all that gubbins.

It gets a lot easier after the first few.
You wouldn't expect to drive a car perfectly the first time you got behind the wheel.  You practise.

All good points so far. The guys with the fastest growing custy base are those that knock. The way I do it is drop leaflets saying we are expanding to this area blah blah and will be calling soon blah blah. When they open the door I say, "Hello, did you get a leaflet about window licking cleaning?"

If they say yes we did or no we didn't, who cares? Just ask them if they need a window cleaner. What's the worst that can happen, and can you live with it ?

Always remember, some will, some wont, so what? Who cares? Just knock and ask.

Having bottle isn't not being afraid. Having bottle is being afraid and doing it anyway. If you want alot of growth in a short time, you'd better get knocking or start dropping leaflets and waiting, and waiting and waiting and waiting.................................. 8)

And to add to Paul, (Hi mate by the way)

After canvassing for years, you tend to find you have far more direct control over the kind of work you can pick up. Also just cos you canvassed an area once, dont mean you can't do it again and again for years down the line, just every time you do you pick up more in the neighbourhood and you get the local monoploy.

It gets really messy when you knock on the door of the guy who does the whole estate. :o ;D

But good luck.

dont dwell on the thought of canvassing, just do it.

just keep knocking the doors and remember to talk your talk but to also listen to what they have to ask and respond accordingly.

Dont give yourself time to ponder on rejection. Stay busy canvassing and soon enough you'll be upbeat and positive enough to dismiss the rejections.
