Walls, I don't touch because of paint issues as already stated, bleach - DON'T USE AT ALL, EVEN IF MY CUSTOEMR SUPPLIES AND ASKS!!!!!!

Carpets, get in with a good carpet cleaner and sub the work out!  As far as ripping the carpets out then I agree with Ian, unless there is damage or the carpets cannot be cleaned to an acceptable state then why change!  they may be students, and we all know how the majority of students live, but this 'as a matter of course' attitude of the agents is wrong, and I'm sure it's also not legal!!

Nick of solution UK has a mould removing microsplitter if I remember correctly, give him a try
