dry clean only?
«
on:
October 26, 2005, 09:54:56 pm »
Been asked to clean a suite which says dry clean only on the tag,now i only clean with hwe and i told the customer this, but she just said go ahead and clean it as she had it done a couple of years ago this way and had no probs.
Should i leave well alone or just go ahead and clean.
Regards
Daniel

Lots of suites have these labels even though the fabric is perfectly safe to wet clean. I was told it was put on to prevent the customers washing the cushion covers and then complaining of shrinkage.
As Lee says test it thoroughly.
The ones I come across the most which I wouldn't wet clean are cotton velours, like a dralon but the pile collapses when water is applied.

Geoff,
John is saying viscose velour has an appearance like Dralon but when you wet it the pile wets out and becomes soggy , wheras Dralon being an acrylic does not absorb water in the same way.
I have cleaned many 'dry clean only ' suites but as Lee says test well before you start and go carefully .
Cheers,
Doug
