My CLX top section wont tighten anymore - unless I get mole grips on it possibly.  :

Am I right in thinking pole section needs replacing ?

I'm a bit slow sometimes too, but i still can't fathom out where a spacer is gonna go or what its gonna do to relieve your problem !!!

try clamping a few inches up the pole and see if it makes any difference

it does .... only slack when extended

in that case remove the threaded end and put it on the other end of first pole section (clamp could just need a new barrel nut ofcourse, being plastic they strip their threads very easily if over tightend )

its worn thin, cut off and reduce the height by a few incs or buy a new section 1

I would do this. Whats 4 inches off 18 or 22ft? to quote the extremely annoying Paul Daniels..."Not alot!"

If you look at your foto you will see the bottom clamp has a slot and the top clamp not either your pole is worn or the clamp stretched I WOULD FILE THAT SLOT AND CREATE  A GAP LIKE THE BOTTOM CLAMP.SO THAT THE CLAMP WILL GRAB THE POLE AGAIN.

The first section gets more wear than any of the others and because its the thinnest diameter  the wear is more of a problem. Try to get into the habit of not fully extending the first section on easy windows to try and spread the clamping wear more evenly along the length. If you fully extend every time its the same bit that gets the clamp on it each time.

Once it is worn you have no choice but to replace the section. The sections also wear from constant rubbing  on the inside of the nect section. Since the tape  never seems to last that long they can go paper thin at the end and thats when cracking can occour.

Then I would have to buy a new pole and would look too much like a newbie then .... gonna keep me battered pole for as long as poss then turn it into a conny roof clean pole

Fixed it by filing down the inner faces of the clamp so now grips tighter and replaced bolt and lever for good measure
