Hi peeps,

I went out today to do my first bit of proper canvassing  :

When I have done it in the past it took me 2+ hours to get one client  

I though a good target would be to knock 400 houses, 50% be in (200) and a 2% sign up (4)

Go out for 7-8 hours for 5 days and gain 20 new custies  

Didn't get out until 12.30, absolutely not looking forward to my 6 hours ahead until the first door said yes.

Motivation was through the roof at this point as you can imagine

Few doors later I see two females chatting at the gate...BOOM! 2 more customers and the neighbor  

So in total I knocked 210 doors in 3 hours. Would have done till 6.30 but sadly my pen running out  

93 answered and I gained 24 new clients and a one off clean due to moving.

I had no business cards which I regretted deeply as plenty asked for one.

In total I got £206 worth of work every 4 weeks and added £2,472 to my yearly turnover.

Not bad for 3 hours work aye?

I don't understand how I got more than 25% of those I spoke to, to sign up???

There was a few that had windies too and last week there was a bin cleaner who also offered window cleaning who leafleted said area.

I stole one of their new custies though as they were not happy with them and you could see why, streak heaven and about 1-2 inches of marks around the edges where they used a damp cloth.

Surely its not normal otherwise I best take up round building instead.

Gained £200 in 3 hours, do 6 hours for £400. Charge 2x clean I am laughing earning £800 per day lol

Not under priced if that's what your getting at.

Just 2-3 bed semi's and terraced.

It was soo easy I probably would have been able to over price the £8 ones to £10 but £1 a window beats £6 an hour working on a building site

Thats great going....

My canvasser has brought me 228 new customers over the last month and hes gained another 19 this week. Hes a natural canvasser and has done this for many years so your figures are impressive.

I am sure my luck will run out which will be very daunting after having such a successful start.

Morale can't really drop when your gaining a house every 7.5 mins 

Roll on tomorrow...

Problem I have is I don't have a van. I have a large garden trolley with a backpack and 4 x 25l barrels.

I do around 40-50 litres on the first clean so its problematic when I can only do 3 houses a time and have to walk home to refill 

Got to start somewhere and I am real keen to make a success of this!

Hes out for 2-4 hours every night exept sunday.

Keep at it and you will do fine.

Well done, but something to think about in the future is to offer a slightly longer cleaning frequency with a slightly higher price.

Say something like, "Many window cleaners still clean on a four-weekly-cycle, but many of my existing customers found this to be too frequent.  So, I offer an every-other-month clean at (state higher than average price) which means you'll save money, you'll not get sick of me turning up all the time, and your windows will still be kept clean"; or words to that effect.

I've been doing this for a good few years now, and I have a fair whack of some nicely priced work at every-other-month; it works.

And when you do turn up, they're pleased to see you; rather than groaning and saying "Is it that time already?"

Hi guys i want to add to this.

Most of my custies pay between 25-35 quid per clean, and i got them by offering to do them bi-monthly. It works, also if you can give cleaning dates on your bills so they know when to expect you next.

Secondly those that say 'oh your back already' really get my back up and they dont stay as customers for long, too busy for that lark. You want custies that appreciate your service, not look at you as a lowly beggar trying to get some beer money.

I've got a £40 account that pays by bank transfer.  They never look happy, on the rare occasion they're in, when we turn upto clean and I ALWAYS have to email them a reminder to pay me.

But this account takes Wor Lass and I literally 10 to 15 minutes to do (longer if they're in  ); lots of glass; would be a nightmare on ladders, they're out in the sticks (amongst my other work); so I'm going to keep doing them till they drop me.

My point is, rather than being sensitive and dropping accounts because you feel 'they don't like you turning up on your terms and conditions', be hard headed and stick to your guns, and clean them anyway.  As long as they pay, I can put up with any perceived disinterest.  And it could just be my perception; not all my customers have to smile and love me.

Oh yeah I do agree with you tosh, if they are willing to pay at the end of the day it dont matter really does it?  I have had accounts in the past where I have had to remind them constantly too, you just dont want too many like that or you will be spending all your spare time chasing customers. And i dont know about you, but I just dont want to work for customers who dont want me doing the work, its not good business practice as a happy customer is more vaulable than a reluctant customer.

Happy customers bring you more happy customers, reluctant customers cost you time and money in chasing payments, and dont bring you more customers.  (in my opinion)
