Yes mate, same thing happened to me. A Council worker wearing un-ironed shirt and dodgey trousers and a strong Irish accent came over and checked my ladders too. Took away all of them and gave me a piece of paper with "New ladder chit" written on it in felt tip pen and told me to go to B&Q and show them the chit and pick up my new ladders! Only cost me 320 quid for the inspection including the chit cost. Bargain. I'll nip down to B&Q in the morning and pick up my brand new ones  ;D

you will get more weighing your ladders in at the scrappy than the discount offered, I get emails every year about this scheme

you go to a approved supplier buy a new ladder and get a discount for the old ladder you hand in

here is a list

Where did this happen? Most of the guys in Gloucester centre would be banned if they checked the ladders they've got

Well I don't have to worry.
All the council work I do is done over a weekend - I doubt any inspectors work Saturdays.

Not sure what shop it was, not even certain its true, just a few of the guys in town were taking the mickey out of some guy they said they saw cleaning a shop with what looked like his mum footing a pair of steps, probably bull***t though you know how some people like to make up stuff

not only do they let you use them, I was able to send a lad on a course funded by the council on safe ladder use and inspection, and the H&S guy accepted my risk assessment on ladder use. not that I use them much but still they are used when needed
