Dwell time is determined by the carpet type, soil conditions, and the level of agitation. Cleaning product doesn't really come in to it IMO.

An additional question to this.
Can you leave it for too long? What are the consequences for letting prespray dry.
Quite occasionally it dry's out on me. I've heard that the soil reattaches itself to the pile if this happens, and cleaning becomes more difficult.
What are the issues with too long a dwell?

With a microsplitter or colloid, absolutely nothing. With a detergent maybe it isn't as "mobile" after it has dried, therefore requiring a bit more flushing. All you'd need to do really is spray over the area with your wand above the carpet. Not a big deal

if using a high alkaline prespray (10+.Powerburst for example) and your using on a wool carpet then letting it dry can damage texture of carpet?
