Vinly Staining
« on: August 26, 2011, 01:20:31 am »

Hi Guys

I have a problem with some Armstrong Flooring, we have inherited a problem where we have taken over some vinyl with bad staining,

The floor is sealed with Vectra floor polish and we use Annihilator to strip, the floors are toilet floors in a rest home, we were hoping that the staining would come off with the polish but no luck, some staining is shadow like grey in colour around toilet bowl, some are red around the edges and one is just yellow all over.

We suspect that it comes from toilet sanitizers and disinfectants probably diluted wrong, no bleach on site

Do any of you fine cleaners use any stain removal products that might work here

Many Thanks

James

I know this is the wrong section of the forum I have posted in the cleaning section too but some of you fellow carpet cleaners might have some carpet products that would work in this situation

If it isnt topical you cant remove it without abrading the surface.

Stain removers seldom work on resilient flooring.

One option would be to colour seal the floor with a PU product then apply an anticolor top coat to prevent future staining.

Is it definately vinyl or is it linoleum.

Test by heating a paper clip with a lighter. If it melts in its vinyl.

Hi Guys

Vinyl is generally short for plasticised PVC and it is the placticiser migrating which causes this type of staining.

It is permanent and no amount of cleaning will make any difference.

Cheers

Interesting service. How often do you carry out this type of work?

Hi Guys sorry for the delay been snowed under with work

Thought it might be of interest but oxilic acid mixed fairly week and three aplications reduced to an acceptable level, just looks like a faint shadow now but custy happy  ;D

CSUK (sorry not sure of your name) yeah we get loads of PLabs, Im in Wellington so not as rough as Auckland but the guys up North have ten this week, straight forward job, independent test lab takes swabs and from the results we decide weather we clean or remove, clean is easy high PH degreaser wash all surfaces rinse with plenty of fresh water and then more water, chuck in some dehums and air scrubbers get tests to check if clear of cleaner and acid and done simples
