I have been speaking with Trading Standards and they have advised me that where I have canvassed a customer on the doorstep that any resultant transaction is subject to 'Cancellation of Contracts Concluded away from Business Premises Regulations 1987' and under these regulations customers should be advised in writing about the 7-day cooling off period.
They acknowledge that where the job is to done in a period shorter than the 7 days ie for emergencies, or the customers own needs then I am operating in a grey area.
Technically they advised that even if a custoemer rang me then these regulations may be applicable
