Whats the point of a reel that will rewind itself if you still have to stand there & guide the hose on????

Any electric reel NEEDS a self layering mechanism!!

I'm building myself one at the moment, doing it properly with custom machined parts & stainless steel bearings etc etc, as well as the 12v motor rewind and self layering mechanism.. if it works out as i hope I may be persuaded to build a few more. It'll be a good bit cheaper than £627 as well!  :o

I've searched EVERYWHERE, and the cheapest 12v rewind hose reel with a self layering mechanism I could find was £2750+ VAT!!  :o :o :o

Its really not very complex to do,.. I can't see how they justify those prices!

Does anybody know what fitting he is using on the drill and hose reel at 2.17 in the vid? I've asked him but he has never told.

He had the fitting made, he did start a topic a while ago asking if anyone would be interested in them if he got them made, but he didn't get any replies after 5mins and he got the huff and locked the topic.

He was asked a dozen times about the slipping clutch and how it was made and, in typical Slumpbuster not-going-to-share-any-information-apart-from-telling-you-how-wonderful-I-am manner, he always ignored them.

you need a good battery to run the motor

Slumpy mentioned charging the drill batteries every evening. I reckon if you had a 12v motor & connected it to the WFP battery you'd hardly notice the extra drain.

I run an 18v cordless drill from my pump battery to wind in my hose reels. With a decent battery, running 2 pumps and a drill to wind in 2 reels it will last all day. Some days I have to start the engine near the end of the day to top the battery up as it isn't holding its charge as much now.

If you could find a motor attach to a reel that had a clutch, there is no reason why your battery could run it.

I'm thinking of running my pumps from the van battery, and using the battery in the back just for the drill.

Do you just use a 22mm socket and a plastic spindle or do you have a more complicated setup Lee?

I do just use a socket, but I use one that fits on the nut that holds the handle in place because the plastic spindle will wear in no time.

You also need a decent drill that is 2 speed, and a variable speed trigger.

Cheap drills the motor smokes after a while, and if you dont have a variable speed trigger, it will snatch too much and rip your wrist off.
