Upholstery problem any ideas!
« on: October 21, 2005, 10:23:12 pm »
Hi all,

I cleaned a suite on Tuesday and had a phone call today from customer saying there was a problem. I went round after work and was told that the three back cushions had a peachy / bronze colour across the top. The carcases and other cushions were fine.

The suite is 10 years old, of good quality and the fabric is cream cotton damask. I used solutions no.2 prespray then rinsed with water obviously after testing.

I've brought the cushions home and said I'll have another go at cleaning them. I'm wondering if its anything to do with hair products or grease as its on the head rest are of the back cushions only!

I'm trying to attach some pictures but don't seem to be having much luck. If they're there good but if not I'll try again........

Any comments or suggestions very welcome.

Kind regards,
Jason.

Thanks pileprofile,

Yes it is on both sides, I know they turned the cushions because both sides were dirty!

Fabric master, Who makes it?

Kind regards,
Jason.

Thanks for the interest Chris and Doug,

Doug - I've just sent pictures to your email address.

Chris - I've always had good response to questions posted on here so didnt consider another forum. I'll post on there tomorrow if plan 'B' (below) doesnt work.

The more I look at them I think its hair grease, I'm gonna try fabric restorer and fibre and fabric rinse on them tomorrow.

Thanks again.

Kind regards,
Jason.

Ha ha,

I like how 'anothercleaningforum' was changed from what I typed, I wondered why you put spaces between the letters on your post Chris.

Thats tickled me  :D

Jason,

Two thoughts

Has customer tried a clean before you on these areas.

Did you use anything different on these areas.

I would proceed as follows.

Try a neat acid rinse on towell to see if this changes colour back

Try an enzyme pre spray.

If neither work treat as browning and use an anti browning chemical.

Good luck,

Doug

Hello Jason
As i can not tell from from  the photos if it is a definate stain, just wondered the so called stain might have been the original colour of the suite with the soil protectecting  the cushions from atmospheric change and the rest of the suite  becoming lighter in colour over the years.
                                                                cheers mark

Hi Doug,

Customer said she hadn't tried to clean herself but dont know. I didn't use anything different on these areas. I noticed the colour change virtually straight away, just thought it would dry ok. I will take your advice and try what you suggested, thank you very much I hope it works!

Hi Mark, its a possibility however the arms and bottom cushions of the suite were far more soiled than the head rest parts so I'd have thought it was more likely to have happened there. Cheers for the suggestion.

Thanks again for your comments guys,

Kind regards,
Jason.
