Get back on the Horse!
« on: August 04, 2011, 08:34:56 am »
To all Window Cleaners,

When you go out for an evening canvassing and get nothing, you must go out again the next day.

Went out Tuesday for 2 hours = Nothing, felt awful, well hacked off. Wednesday for 1 hour = 2 customers, back in the game!

You may feel like crap after a barren day and dread going out again but you have to break the cycle. Get back on the horse and make some money.

Cheers,

Caleb

ps - Rule No.1 of building a Window Cleaning Round - when canvassing you gotta knock doors and speak to people. Posting leaflets only is a long long road and nowhere near as effective as knocking doors

Good post mate,
You are so right about face to face with potential customers, just dropping leaflets is a waste of time with around a 1to2 percent return.
Its constant heavy rain here at the moment, am going out prospecting the houses in my local area.
I currently travel around 70 - 100 miles a day to do a specialist sector but the petrol is killing me and I need to make a start on gaining work nearer to home.
I've prospected it before, ages ago, trying to reduce the mileage but without much luck, one company seems to have it stiched up.
However, get back on the horse!
I reckon there must be some houses they dont do, and some that dont like the window cleaner and some that might just like me! so if I pick up 1,2,or 3 its a start on bringing the work nearer home.
What do you reckon?

Probably turning up on a horse is the problem. I assume it is a small horse so you can reach down for the doorbells and knockers, but even so I think I would be reluctant to do business with someone at the door if they had a horse.......  ;)
if it is dirty it is fair game

Re the leaflets and getting better customers - if thats what works for you mate, who am I to say otherwise. Website is good aswell, agree with ya there.

Combat,

Just go for it mate. Like you say not everyone will be tapped up by the other window cleaning company. Also people move into areas all the time so they wont have a W/C. Most of the canvassing is a trust/relationship anyway - if they get on with you and have some desire to have their windows cleaned then they will take you on. I say that as Ive knocked streets recently and been told that they were canvassed only the day before and still got jobs. Its purely a numbers game, keep knocking and you will get the work. Travelling 100 miles is a killer. Work at your local area and eventually you'll be able to sell that round off if you want.

llaaww,

Youve got me thinking up loads of horse jokes now.

1) Window Cleaner out canvassing: "Hi there, do you have a window cleaner?"
Householder: "Nay"

2) I was working at a first clean with a mate the other day and we were having a right laugh. Anyway the owner of the house obviously heard us laughing and came out and said "Can you quit horsing around!"

3) I finished a clean yesterday on a customer who had been a bit sceptical of the pole system. Anyway at the end of the job she pays me and says "Im really impressed. The last time my windows were this clean, Shergar was walking around"

4) I went canvassing for 4 hours on Monday and got nothing. Unfortunately I worked the area after the horse has bolted

sorry they are terrible i know

Cheers,

Caleb

Thanks Caleb,
Changed the filters and resin, tried my new WCW backpack, which just shows how worn out my last one was! so off out now for a soaking!
Re horsey! I cleaned the stable windows at the Royal Artillery Saddle Club the other day after a refit, very wierd being up a step ladder in the stable with a horse for company.
The stable manager was in the same regiment as me, favours!
All the best.
