For those people who employ WCs...

I want to put in place some bonuses to encourage my guys to do a great job, as well as reward them for professionalism etc...

do you have any bonuses in place and what are they, and how much?

cheers

I was talking about this today as I have 2 lads out who aren't quite reaching their targets set.

I have a friend who runs a landscaping business, who suggested setting them a minimum wage but should they
hit targets their hourly rate increases. So if they're putting the effort in they get rewarded for it. I thought it was a great idea.

i was playing with that idea, but i thought it might be too complicated, and less motivating than saying for instance if you turn up on time, no sick days or days AWOL they get a £50 bonus in their pay packet... but then having a series of targets and bonuses like this

Tell them they keep their job if they hit target :-) good motorvational bonus

Decide how much a year u would want to pay them if they hit their productivity target and work backwards from that so for example in simple figures if ur paying 10000 a year u may like to make 70% as basic and rest as bonus now divide over 12 months and u have ur flat wage and bonus wage

hey ian,

i;m really interested to hear your thoughts, especially becauise of your sales background.  i guess they must have used sales bonuses there?

productivity is a difficult one really as we give an allotted due date so we have to work unrtil all that days work is completed.  there's no flexibility with how much work they do.

something to do with priofessioalism (helen mentioned this) such as £50 if they turn up on time for a month, turn up every day (no sick no unauthorised leave), and if they wear their unifrm correctly.

then another £50 for bringing in 5 new jobs over a month (richy wilks suggested this) and then i suppose more money for more clients

possibly a winter months bonus linked to professioanlism from nov to feb...

so basically keeping a modest hourly rate, but encouraging them to perform up to standard...

i never seem to see you in chester anyhow ian... ;-)

thanks for the advice tho.  keep it simple is probably very important.  what i found in the past is that bonuses can eaily upset people, in ways i never predicted.

i think i'll stick to just 2 bonuses then.  one for attendance and one for bringing in new work

Bringing in new work.....I forgot about that one, it was such a rare occurence ;D ;D ;D
New windows custie, done on the day and confirmed on regular schedules thereafter. The cleaner got 100% (or 50% each if a 2 man team)
100% reduced if not done on day, or done by someone else.
New Carpet & Upholstery custies.
10% of job price for just bringing back a name and tel number, could be a windows customer, their next door neighbour, the wife's workplace etc etc.
Terms -  we would quote and if we got the job the cleaner would get the 10% when we were paid. So if it was a nice say £250.00 job the cleaner would have got £25.00 for just a name and tel number........takers on this great deal......none.
When asked why.....couldn't be bothered. ::)

;)The main thing about a bonus: your worker need to understand it fully and it needs to be measured weekly so as the worker can check his progress and improve as he goes through the month Its pointless to have a system that he only knows when he opens his wage packet on pay-day. The other thing how can you judge professorial.
That would leave your staff in a foggy hole. I would give it out in front of all the team as so many work for the recognition.Kill Two birds with one stone.A good hand clap can go a long way.An other thing that can work well is a meal ticket for the top producer as a 6 monthly prize.Again prevented in front of all.And at your Christmas do a employer of the year if you are a big concern. ;)

They keep there job for one more week? This type of remark is the worst you could say to a worker. When I first came to the U K and worked at a estate agency my boss said this to me when I enquired about a commission.
W I I F O M. What s in it for me, been the fellow I was then, he nearly stopped a crack.I was never so insulted. That smug ass got made resplendent before any one else so I phoned to wish him well with leaving.I just coul;d not understand how someone could call himself a professional and say that to staff.
