cavassing woe's
« on: July 26, 2011, 08:14:45 pm »
so i was out cavassing today and decided to knock a new housing estate, its in a rough erea i wouldnt nomally bother with but there new town house estate looks very nice

so i parks up and start knocking and marking down on a list all the "dirty but no answer" propertie's
no one in at all but loads of dirty windows, thought id stumbled on a gold mine for a while until...

knocked this one house and this ugly minger with a f*g on and brat child answers the door!
my god i thought turns out she wanted a windy so i felt obliged to quote knowing full well id never get paid off her

so put in a high price thanks god she didnt except

"what" she says WHAT are you kidding me"

"okay" i say "thanks for your time"

after that i just screwed up the dirty but out list and went back to my van and said to myself i think i wont bother with this estate after all

not really sure the point im telling you this but just wanted to vent my feeling with someone
and see if any others have similar experiences?

i think the lesson for me to take from this is...

dont canvass in rough ereas even on the new looking estates

when i was a kid coucil housing looked like council housing! now all the scrubbers wive in nice looking houses. well they do untill theyve had chance to wreck them  :(

thanks for reading

The only way it will work on these estates until u get to know the genuine from the scum is only to do them when people are in and have the money on them.

May only get 50% done on the day but money is money

Personally I gave em up ages ago cos Im a snob  ;D

that "CIGGY  ON  lip"  type  can (but not always) be very loyal. oh yes  it will take a few cleans till you get an "understanding" about the payment method .

but you will be safe after that, no flash harrys  with a big van will ever get a look -in    and sometimes they have a wealthy mum who has a conservatory  willing to pay decent money too

this year ive managed to find about 100 houses of that sort ,im looking eagle eyed for many more of them and willing to pay top dollar /or part exchange  to get them

I really do my best not to stereotype areas but I've had to review that over the years.  One estate with a reputation in a nearby town has produced 5 customers down the years.  4 of them bumped me for payment.  The other one was OK but I had to let it go because his dog had that "I want to rip the window cleaner's throat out" manner.  He used to shut it in but with kids running in and out, it was only a matter of time before the dog would get to me.  I haven't worked on that estate for years now.

I've got about 12 council houses on one estate an they are superb. Takes me 1 an a half hours to do, they all pay on the day and if one of them isn't in then a neighbour will pay for them. They appreciate you a hell of a lot more than some of the other customers in the sold called 'nicer' areas and I've also got a lot of recommendations from them and now clean the majority of their extended families.

Sure thing.  There are different types of council estates.  I used to have a good run of compact work in one particular area that was as you describe.  They were all middle aged upwards.
I think it's more of an age thing than where someone lives.  The trouble was that the prices were too low (my fault) and when I put them up, some cancelled.  As some were elderly there was a high death rate too.  Younger people moved into them and they weren't so keen on having a window cleaner.  Eventually, it was no longer viable to go there.
Part of the problem with newer tenants is that these days, there is a degree of means testing to get a council house.  This means that many moving in won't be able to afford a window cleaner - especially as I don't do rock bottom prices like I did before I knew better.
