Hi all,
I'm not a regular on here, but I am a specialist rug cleaner and dealer. Most of the cleaning I do is for the trade, but private customers do drop off rugs to my shop for cleaning. I charge a minimum of £25 psm + Vat for wool rugs and £50 psm for silk.
Customers are happy to pay this price because I have a knowledge about rugs and can explain what their rug is and why it needs to be cleaned in a certain way.
An oriental / Persian rug may be worth £100 or it might be worth £10,000, every time you clean a rug you should have an idea of the value so you can decide wether the risk is appropriate to the cost of cleaning.
My advice is to stay away from silks or part silks unless you have had a lot of experience with them, and build yourself a drying room ( essential for dealing with rugs)
Good luck
I hope it goes well for you
