Rug cleaning premesis
« on: July 24, 2011, 08:01:18 pm »
Hi All,

Just moved into new(er) larger premesis with a view to push rug cleaning. I just wondered if anyone else has a specialist premesis for rug cleaning? It will be manned all day so people will be able to drop off rugs to us. Looking forward to the new venture, any advise much appreciated.

Cheers

I got premises last year to start offering  off site rug cleaning, it has been a disaster and the unit just turned into a money pit, I advertised..... 'specialist rug cleaning in our specially equipted factory unit'

I put it on my website & on my YP advert. I only get 1 or 2 calls a month for it and no one will pay the extra price it costs.

I'm giving up the unit next month as it has just turned into a glorified storage shed.

Hi Mike

I think it is best to run it as a completley seperate business. This is my intention. if you google "Rug Cleaning" you will see specialist companies. People are looking for just "Rug Cleaning" they need to be able to drop off and collect rugs, as well as a collection/delivery service. I have dabbled before and found when i dedicate a bit more time and effort into just rug cleaning it is suprising how much interest is created.
You say "Pay the extra" I agree they wlll not pay that much more, so why charge it? It doesnt really take that long to clean a rug. "Stack em high and sell em cheap" (But not to cheap) especially if they drop and collect.

Just my thoughts, probably not worth much.

Cheers

Hopefully next week planning permission will be granted for this..

http://planningdocs.sheffield.gov.uk/WAM/findCaseFile.do?action=show&appName=planning&appNumber=11/01917/FUL

The building will be part of my pension fund   , and I will pay rent  to my pension fund for use of it .

I do not think it is viable to operate on rug cleaning only so I am going to open it as a "cleaning centre"    offering laundry , carpet cleaning ,  curtain cleaning, window cleaning , dry cleaning

( outsourced)  and  rug cleaning in the downstairs unit , heavily promoted.

I will need  I hope to  create value in the business , but my main aim is to have a tenanted property with rent boosting my pension pot.
I clean carpets
I dry Buildings

this is somthing i am wanting to get in. i do a lot of rug clean all off site and have a huge shed FOC  (daddys) lol and going to build a wash pit in there . Been thinking about it for ages as its a perfect shed for the job as it was previously a tank room for milking unit . still has all the power and ventilation system in there.

My old man is retiring soon and in roll reversal will become my YTS boy. For years he treated me as slave labour and now i can have my revenge. He comes out with me 2 days a week now but spends most of his time yapping to customers and drinking their tea and munching on there biscuits . He looked at me a bit funny today when i introuduced him to a handfull of leaflets and told him to get lost

Justin, don't know how helpful they would be but you could try asking TCS in Tadley.
They have a purpose build place for rugs and flood damaged items to be re-furbished.

Hi all,
Strange that this thread came up as I had this email last night referring me to a new 4 day school at alltec for rug cleaning - part of it covering set up & pricing I think, http://www.alltec.co.uk/page/1smlf/Training_Schools/Rug_School.html Dont know if it would have been of interest to you Justin?

Was  it coincidence or not

Big Clean doing a Rug School this week also

I did phone Piere last week about some potential Rug Cleaning But I failed to persuade customer to have her rugs throughly cleaned using the plant process at £3 a  square foot plus vat my selling price.

I hope a good part of all the Courses is sales training

I did contact Johnson  Dry Cleaners and they appeared to be less

Cheers Neil,

We should get together for a chat one day.

Can't be far off that I'm due my regular trip to a block of flats in Camberley, although I'm going to be all afternoon at a job near Legoland next Wednesday.
Either way we'll meet up soon to compare notes ;)

Do johnsons send rugs out as I thought they hired out crap doctors

I got the alltec email if it does what it says on the tin ok value but still
a lot more than the big clean IMO if your going to do off site rug cleaning
then you need to charge minimum £25 per sq metre sell it as a specialist
service with a different name

My mistake. It's TSG (Tadley Support Group)

My father 42 years ago bought a factory to just clean carpets & rugs, mostly carpets, before the major use of HWE machines, we used to uplift carpets clean & refit them, including thousands of flooded ones, The factory cost about £2500, and probably todays value of £250,000, and its my pension fund. We had thousands of carpets & rugs, before entering into dry cleaning & curtain cleaning and we also clean rugs there still today as well as wedding dresses & curtains, still do a few rugs a week.
