tds started to show 001 - is it time to replace resin?
« on: July 24, 2011, 04:44:42 pm »
hi all, had a RO system now for about 6 months on part tim basis. its always shown 000 on my inline tds.
filled up today and its started to creep up - its flicking between 000 and 001 - do i need to relace the resin or prefilters?? or both?? i know most of you guys recommend pure freedom for the resin but what about filters? i have two 10" carbon and sediment.
any help would be good thanks.

001 is fine to use .... i go up to 010 and then change the resin.

Have you flushed it lately ? sometimes giving the membranes a 10min flush can bring the tds down. If not, just change the resin over
Only those who risk going too far will truly know how far they can actually go

if it really is 001 then dont worry as said anything up to 10 is fine on regular work,i have got away with 15 + before but i said "really" 001 cos you are relying on an inline tds meter and they are notorious for being crap :)
get a hand held and check with that

any idea how long it will take to rise up to a level when i defo need to change? i know it depends on how much i do (about 1200 litres a month)
also how do you 'flush' the membrane? sorry! im a bit new to this

first what kind of ro is it,assume its an ro-man or derivative if so just switch the flush valve into correct position and run water through for about 5 mins every time you make a batch of pure (its the blue plastic tap thing under the membranes) disconnect from di chambers when you do this and allow the water to level out on tds before you reconnect after switching flush valve back

anything up to 40tds  is fine you just need to rinse a bit longer thats all. flushing the membranes out applies to ro systems only.

I would never use 40ppm tds

I've had slight problems at 17, up to 10 is fine

can i expect the reading to rise quickly or will it be more gradual??

Mark just change the resin mate,

then it's job done, when it rises it means it will raise the chance of you having a problem, and I defo would never go to 15tds let alone 10 stay at 000 you have pure water and we wonder why wfp gets a bad name  ::).

Resin is cheap just order some and change it, if you want to save a little longer term get 2 di vessals and you will get a high benifit that way rather than binning 001 resin.

If your not willing to learn, No one can help you, If you are determined to learn, No one can stop you ;)

It would rise gradually.

The larger your di vessel the slower it will rise
